Default MIPAY Talkmobile - Strange Charge

Hi Guys,

Long time reader....first time poster!!

I've just noticed on my HSBC account a charge appearing as MIPAY Talkmobile for £30.

I duly called HSBC to query the charge and after the answering what seemed like 100 questions the fraud team is now investigating. Lots of questions centered around my mobile provider (Orange) and also my parent's mobile provider so whether this is a known issue....??

Just wondered if anyone else has experienced dealings with MIPAY, be it with or without consent? From what i can gather it seems like a service where you can top up 'friends' credit remotely......

Would really appreciate any feedback people have

Thanks!

Will

Default Mipay talkmobile t

Hi Will,

Similar situation also a first time post, have checked my HSBC account online tonight and I too have a £30 pound transaction from MIPAY TALKMOBILE T BROOKWOOD SUR dated 6 Apr 09.

Its a card payment, which is odd as i've not been out the house for 3 days so have not used my card. I too have contacted HSBC with little sucess so far. If I have any joy on getting to the bottom of the situation I will post a response, like wise if you hear of a scam going on can you post a thread.

Good luck with it,

JT

Talkmobile is a 'cheaper calls' company run by Carphone Warehouse. It's primarily a PAYG service and Mi-Pay manage the payment systems.

If you or your family don't have a Talkmobile SIM then your card has definitely been used fraudulently.

Good luck with getting it sorted out.

Regards

Hi there,

I also had £30 to MIPAY TALKMOBILE T BROOKWOOD SUR on my account. I was taken at 8am on the 6th of april. After anwsering a lot of questions (same as people above) they marked the transaction as fruadulent, cancelled the card and are sending a new one in the post.

I'm also on HSBC, I mentioned to him that there seem to be a few of us who have been victims of this, all on HSBC over the last few days. He noted it down so maybe that will help the investigation. Not sure if there's any connection but good to keep them informed anyway.

Just to note, they were really efficient and helpful. The man I spoke to was curteous and I was really impressed with how quickly everything was sorted (especially considering I had to make the phonecall at work!)

Thanks

Thanks for all the responses, i feel reassured i'm not alone!! The details of my transaction are exactly the same as all the other 'suffers' (i abreviated on my original post). My transaction was also early hours of 05/04 with the funds leaving my account on the 6th.

Seems very suspect that all of the affected are HSBC bank holders. I don't suppose anybody has an email for HSBC so we can highlight this thread to them? I'm waiting for the info from the fraud team to arrive but would like to put this problem on senior personnel radar as something is definately awry here!

I also found £30 deducted from my account by the same organisation. Found this thread when I googled the details that appeared on my account. I also have an HSBC Account. Have cancelled my card and been told to wait 3 days before ringing their fraud people.

Default Could be card fraud?

Do you have a Maestro card? If so, looks to me like someone is using your card to gain mobile phone top-ups.

In which case, it's a card fraud issue and nothing to do with Mi-Pay Talkmobile - I'm guessing like all retailers they just process the transaction from the card details provided. Unless your card is reported lost or stolen or the bank suspects its fraudulent use, then the payment will go through.

You should cancel your card and report it to your bank immediately.

Worth remembering that the difference between Maestro cards and normal debit cards is that the customer, not the bank foots the bill as chargebacks are not allowed.

Good luck.

Just a quick update;

Still no news from HSBC and in light of the majority of the affected being HSBC customers i've emailed HSBC providing a link to this thread! Not sure what, if anything, will come of it but nonetheless thought it was worth a go.

I would urge any other people who have seen the charge reply on this thread so we (bank customers) can gauge the extent of the problem...

I am an RBS customer and had £30 fraudulently debited from Mipay Talkmobile on 7 Apr 09. It was done under my partners card and he always has it on him and the only 2 places he uses it is tesco and a spar shop, has anyone else affected used these retailers recently???

I got hit for £30.00 also from my RBOS account on 6th April. I have used a Spar shop recently, maybe just a coincidence though.

The fraud team at RBOS would not tell me too much but it was very apparent they know all about Mipay Talkmobile!

My card now cancelled and hopefully I will get my money back!
