I need vet help

Options
My cat was in a fight and as a result he lost nails on his right paws. I have been applying peroxide but he is in a lot of pain and lifting his paws when he walks. Is there anything else that I can do to ease his pain and make the healing go faster. I can not afford to take him to the vet right now as I have a child on the way.

  • Do you have an RSPCA or PDSA local to you? If so they should treat your pet at a reduced rate or free of charge. If you don't have either some vets will let you pay in installments if you explain your situation. Please take him, a cats claws are like our fingers, very delicate and vital to wellbeing. You could try warm salty water instead of peroxide, it may be more gentle but still effective for the wound.

Cats are usually tough stoic animals and if he's showing signs of discomfort it's possibly very sore for him.

    Hope he feels better soon.

How long ago did he hurt his paw?
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D
  • you have got to get him to the vet and find a way to pay for it - its all part and parcel of having a cat I am afraid.

PDSA or Blue Cross may be able to help if you are on benefits.

Is he neutered - unneutered toms often get into fights and can get injured. Please get him neuteed ASAp to prevent further injury and expense. Again, if you are on beneifts you may be able to get this done free or reduced.

Maybe your local cats protection league would be a good place to start, theyshould know what help you can get.

My first thought, ok second after poor Cat, is if you can't afford a Vet bill or maybe £30, how the heck will you afford a baby? You won't! But that doesn't help, so, if you're on benefits (Council Tax Benefit or Housing Benefit) PDSA can help. Here you have to be within their catchment area, the website will tell you where they are based. The hospitals let you register three pets & you just make a donation. Do you have insurance? Tho i'd imagine if you do it'll come in at under the excess price anyway. Is there anything you can pawn? Cash Generator & shops like it are in most towns, they take everything & you buy the item back when you can or renew the loan. The Cat must go to a Vets, it's part of having a Pet. I do hope it'll be ok & get treated x

Why do people get pets if they cannot afford them? Look Loudon girl insurance does not cost that much each month and if you were insured then you could have got him to a vet today. The poor thing is in agony and you are willing to make him suffer overnight?

  • Yes, I Agree - A Vet Once Told Me Cats Are Characterisitically Long Suffering Creatures, So I'd Agree That He's In Need Of Professional Attention. Try Pdsa Vets. Check Out Their Website!

would she leave a child in pain if she didn't have the money to have the child treated?

ring your mates, family etc etc get some money and get that cat sorted, it's animal cruelty if you don't
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

Peroxide is toxic to cats (if it turns white when mixed with water not put it anywhere near your cat) and would be very painful - all I can advise is contact local charitys pdsa/ rspca / blue cross etc to see if they can help otherwise just bathe it a few time a day in warm salty water (mix it in a bowl and put his paw in it he wont like it - by the time his swishes it around it should do the trick)
Please dont go giving him any human medication either these can also cause more harm than good.
good luck and hope he's well soon
