ghd hair straighteners (merged threads)

i am hoping to get some wide ghds today, so can you tell me the cheapest price on the high street please? also, i have read lots of threads about them on here, but what i really want to know is, WHY are they better than other straighteners? they are the same heat and ceramic coated like so many others i have tried. has anyone used them who has tried at least 5 others of a high temperature? my problem is, NOTHING straightens my hair, imagine fizz off corrie but ten times worse is how my hair is, and no matter how much i straighten it its still kinked and looks wide like a triangle. 80 odd quid is a hell of a lot of money to me, i really need to know that ghd is far superior to another straightener of the same spec, so any advice from people with masses of unstraightenable brillo pad hair would be most appreciated. also, does it stay straight after or does it start expanding after 5 mins which is the norm for me. thanks.

Best thing since sliced bread if you ask me.

Yes, they are an awful lot of money, but in my mind, you get what you pay for. Nothing else straightens my hair as well as ghds. I paid £70 for mine 4 years ago. The aftersales service is fab - any slight fault - and Jemella exchange with a brand new pair. I am on my 3rd pair, faults in the past have been broken plug and cracked casing. They sent me new pairs with no quibbles.

Once straightened, your hair will stay straight until the next wash. Mine tends to frizz out in damp weather and when its raining, so I tend to do it again on those days! :o

If you are in two minds, your best bet is to ask your hairdresser to straighten for you - so you can see the effect they will have on your hair.

thanks, do you have evil hair like me too?! toni and guy use these straighteners on me and they work great, BUT- they straighten it with the hairdryer first and i need to know, do they work with brillo hair when you cant do it with a hairdryer first--my hair is so bad even straightened i have to have it in a BUN i cant even have a ponytail!! and does anywhere know where is the chapest place to get them, i dont want to pay by card or paypal though.

  • Hey pumpa

I have to admit that my hair isnt quite brillo pad standards but i do get really annoying kinks in my hair that even the iron cant get out. although my beloved ghd's can! :T

I find that when you blow dry you hair first before straightening, the results always last longer but i wouldnt say that your hair gets any straighter using both.

With my hair i can get it perfectly straight asap, but even according to one of my friends (we call her mufassa due to her unruly mane) She can get hers perfect in just slightly more time than it takes me. Thats without blowdrying first.

I think the best way to get it looking great is to do it in layers oh and add a bit of iron oil, it works a treat!

Hope this helps aid your decision.

BUY THEM, they are the best thing since sliced bread.

I am really missing mine since my pup chewed threw the flex at the weekend. Does anyone know if I can re-wire them with a normal plug or do I have to get a full new flex on them. Noticed that the voltage on them is 250 so am unsure whether to put a plug on.

    Any advice urgently required plz.

yours a very frizzy, angry, GHD junkie!!!

Just started comping again, wish me luck!!!

I bouught a few types of straightners - I have blonde curly/ frizzy hair but I was buying straightners for afro type hair as thats what my hairdesser recommended. Luckily another hairdresser told me to get GHD's and now I am so pleased.

Also i was going to get wide plates for my thick bushy hair but I was reccomended just get standard size and they are perfect.

I am just gutted I did not buy them sooner.

Do they replace them for free or do I have to pay.

I can understand them giving you a new pair if they are faulty but this accident was due to my pup chewing the wire will they still replace them?
