Washing hair without shampoo

Am having terrible problems finding a shampoo that doesn't make my skin itch. Have spent a fortune trying a variety of fragrance free without success. What I would like to know is has anyone tried just washing hair without any shampoo. I am sure that I read some celeb does this and once you get used to it it's better for your hair.

Perhaps there's something here:

Be careful - quite a lot of them are intended for pets!Stompa0 -

I have heard from a friend that while waiting for it to become self cleaning, vinegar and tea tree or lavender rinses help too! I might also give this a try because my shampoo has just started to irritate me- after being fine for years! I already use cider vinegar to help my scalp and it's surprising that once rinsed out it doesn't smell. Good luck with it.0 -
At the risk of making my MSE pals go "yeuch" .... I have not been using shampoo or conditioner for a couple of years now. I have long hair (mid-back), and it is washed every six weeks or so in just hot then cold water; about twice a year I treat it to a mild shampoo but then have to repeat the short greasy stage before it settles down again.
However, I do not blow-dry or style my hair in any way, so no artificial heat or product is ever applied. I suspect that, if I did, I'd have to revert to more frequent washing.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

A reporter did this for a tv documentary thing about a year ago. She only used water to wash, no soap, shampoo etc.
Her hair was like rats tails for a while and she said she felt disgusting BUT it did pick up and get more manageable and felt better after a while. She never really felt clean though so went back to using chemical products as soon as filming was finished.
Have you tried plain baby products?Herman - MP for all!0 -
