Hello,

I have decided to challenge myself to only spend £100 maximum on clothes during 2009  & was wondering if anyone cared to join me ?

My challenge is for myself only & not for DD; kids grow, constantly  .

Underwear & footwear is not included in the £100 & nor - thanks to some rational thinking by sarahb :A are accessories ;) .

Any gift tokens or money given as a gift is not included in the £100 & I also think that there could be a 'contingency fund' of say £ 50 for special events eg weddings, red carpet moments etc...

This idea came about when I read back through my own diary & realised how much I had spent on clothes  & even worse how many of them were unworn due to my 'expansion' :o . My conclusion was that I have plenty of clothes & that rather than surrender to my increasing size I should make sure I fit back into them & the best way of doing that was to limit my budget to such an extent that I would have to really seriously consider every potential purchase.

This wont be easy & at times it probably wont be pretty but I'm hoping that if enough of us join in ... we can all save some money & support eachother away from temptation : all purchases will have to be declared & deducted from the total each time  .

So, if anyone wants to join in then I suggest that you spend the next 2 days shopping ... ;)

Lula

The following are excluded from the £100 : Anything that you wouldnt wear out in public by itself ( under normal circumstances ;) ) ie : underwear, nightwear, footwear, headwear, swimwear & essential outerwear - coats,raincoats-
Also excluded are gifts, gift vouchers/tokens/cards & any items swapped for another item. You may boost your allowance by selling your unwanted clothes/shoes only ( selling your car, cat,OH or children in order to buy clothes is very wrong :naughty: :rotfl: )

I could probably do this as I get a lot of "hand me downs". I'd best top up with handkerchiefs prior to 01/01/09 though!!
My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.

  • Count me in too please.

The jeans I'm currently wearing have to be binned tonight as my killer thighs have done for them, so I'll be off to a poor start with the challenge. However, I'll keep the £100 in mind when I shop and buy only the one replacement pair that I actually need instead of the 2 or 3 that I would usually get.

I'll have a go at this idea.

I need clothes but I don't have any money to buy them and this will help me find more inventive ways of coping than spending cash I don't have eg ebay, sales, low cost items, charity shops, outlet shops.

Here goes then.........!!!!! I will spend no more than £100 on clothes in 12 months.

    Good luck everyone!

Ooh, I actually got some replies :j

    Hello & a big welcome to :

Airwolf1, gailey, HonestBob, 1sue23 & fedupand skint :D. Great to have you all 'on board' & 1sue23 - you are living where I want to be living one day when debt free. I did live on a boat many years ago pre DD & you are so right about the space issues, I shall remember that & hopefully it will keep me focused on only buying what is needed rather than desired.

I love the way all challenges inspire great resourcefulness & creativity & believe me I will be seeking ways to stretch that £100 as far as possible. It's going to be great at the end of the year to tot up exactly what we have managed to acquire for that £100  . Airwolf1 - I dont think handkerchiefs count as clothes unless you plan to make a bikini out of them ;) so you can buy freely & without guilt - 10 points for being enviro friendly too.

Do we want membership numbers & our spending to be 'public' on the first page ?

    bye for now
    Lula

Can we have membership numbers please? :j

I like being member of a club on this site and it helps me keep track of things better. I am not debt free at all but these challenges are helping me reduce my spending to help pay more of my debts.:T :rotfl:

    Can I join too please?
Shouldn't be too hard as I'm currently "recycling" two pairs of maternity jeans by hoiking them in with (hubbys) belt and my youngest child is nearly 3 years old:p
I'll gladly spend ££s on hubby or the kids but anything over a fiver for myself....I just can't bring myself to buy it!

  • Please add me in! I don't think I spend that much on clothes but I'm often in denial. Would help me enormously in keeping track of my clothes buying. Although accessories aren't included, I may have to have a separate handbag budget!!!:rotfl:

Membership numbers would be great. I agree, is nice to be part of "the club"
