Seems to be quite a few of us aiming to become debt free in 2009 but we all know how easy it is for things to slip.... so this isn't so much a challenge as a support thread for anyone who is on that final push to debt freedom! We can use to it share successes and slip ups, point out challenges and other threads that have helped us, and generally chivvy each other along. :)

    Count me in! I'm aiming to be debt free in 2009 too! I'm currently saving £300 a month and my debt free date is July 2009. Once I get there, I will start saving for a flight to syndeny - i'm planning to go and work there for a year or two and need the debt to be gone so I can go.

    so:

    Debt free Date - July 2009

    How lovely, I am in. It seems a really tall order to me right now, but i am gonna give it a real go!

    Debts: 3,400 ish on a CC, I have applied to have a loan to cover this, to try and reduce the interest repayments. But I really want to overpay, I have been OPing on my Credit card but the intrest rate is crippling. I was refused a 0% CC:mad:.
    One major stumbling block is going to be my daughters orthadontal treatment.

    But I really want to do it.

    I have signed up pigsback (still trying to understand everything I can do there). Joined some survey sites, and entering comps.

    I am doing the NSD, and the sealed pot challenge.

    In the new year, I am going to join the monthly grocery challenge too. I am in awe of the live on 4K challenge, feel unable to do that at the moment. Mainly because of my daughters dental work. We are going for the consultation today.

    On the plus I am nearly all done with Christmas shopping, and have really cut back in comparison to last year, when I didn't have a handle on my finance at all.

    So here's to debt free in 2009!:o

    Count me in I've let these debts drag on long enough. £6,600 by christmas next year, just over £500 a month. Wish me luck.

    count me in. have joined the pay 20k by xmas 09 thread but I have debt of £18k so am hoping to clear all of that. i worked it out to about £1150 per month. my debt repayments at the moment are £600 per month so I have to find roughly £500 per month extra to do it. have never done a budget before but have sat down and worked one out starting next year. I am embarrassed to say that I have a fair bit of surplus wages each month (approx £1000 :o AFTER all payments including loan repayments) looking back through my statements I cant believe where it has all gone!!
    so next year I will be sticking to my budget, keeping up with working lots of overtime and throwing EVERYTHING spare at my debts. OH is fully on board to clear his debts too so we can buy a house in 2010 completely debt free!!!!!

    i am so excited!!!

    Hi again Mizmir

    Great idea creating a new thread as it's great having a thread were we've all got a common goal. I think I might abandon my new diary and post on here instead, if that's okay.

    My debt at my LMB 30-11-08 was £9283-63 and is currently £9060-50. I've paid 2% off already yipeee! I'm aiming for 31-12-09 as my DFD, but would be delighted if I could do it my DH b'day on the 29-10-09 - This date also would tie in better with my 0% deal on my credit cards!

    Looking forward to seeing the total's decrease and sharing some advice and tips. Am sure we can all do it and 2009 will be our year. Good Luck to everyone!

    Welcome again! Great to have you on board. dfin2009 - feel free to post here as much as you like - hope it will become like home for us - and that we'll be able to have regular parties to celebrate! (And a MASSIVE one at the end by the looks of it!). Don't ditch your own diary too quickly though - you may find that you want to post there too. (where is it by the way - will drop by later)
