Great 'Comping' Hunt. How to win competitions

Serious ‘compers’ try to win as many prizes as possible, furnishing their houses and travelling the world with their winnings. The Competitions Board on this site’s Forum is an incredible resource, a huge directory of contests costing nothing to enter.
But how do compers boost their chances of success? I want to tap MoneySavers expertise’ to find out the best comps to enter, how to keep track of their entries and come up winning tie-breakers? How many should you enter a day? How much can you expect to win? Are there ways to avoid spam and junk mail?
Please post below to share your tips.

It's really not that easy. If you enjoy the hobby then get entering but if you're just doing it as an easy way to furnish your house and travel the world, it's most likely that isn't going to happen.
Keep track by thanking the people kind enough to share the competitions they find. And no, there are no ways to avoid spam and junk mail though there is a list on here of sites to keep away from altogether.I've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0 -
Number one tip, has to be to read VelvetGlove's guide.
You bet me too it! Seriously that has everything you need to know based on the experiences of lots of compers on here and wonderfully compiled by Velvet Glove.
I'm actually rather confused by what this post is asking for and why0 -
My guess would be that someone wants to put a section in one of Martins tv appearances about comping again and they want to use all our experience and knowledge to try to help others get a leg up when we all know there isn't really one, it's just a case of put in the hours and hope you get luckyJust become FTBs & Aiming to be mortgage free by 2034
Thank you to all who post on the comps/freebies forums you've helped us save our deposit :money:0 -
Along these same lines - if a comp doent say one per person / household do folk submit multiple entries? If so how many on average?Happy with any wins this year :A0

I enter as many comps as I can each day, most of the prizes I want for myself or family but I also enter comps where, if I win, I can sell the prize on ebay, this is a sore point with some compers, but by doing this I can pay off some of my debts, or give my children a decent xmas.
I don't enter foreign holday comps as I don't have a passport and can't afford to pay for a passport for the whole family.
You can't avoid spam or junk mail but most compers use a different email address to their normal one.
The best comps to enter are the ones you want to win:p .
I have only been comping for about 18 months and in that short time I have noticed a drop in wins, I think this is because so many more people are entering, but as the saying goes "you have to be in it to win it".
Comping is great fun, but can be labourious, the great people on this forum help to keep spirits high especially when going through a dry spell, and they are all so genuinly happy when you win.2008 won £5119.04 :j
2009 won so far £0:rotfl:

Sit at the laptop all day surrounded by horse shoes and rabbits feet! Don't forget to type with your fingers crossed!2008 wins £4405 2009 wins £7194 2010 wins £9615
Best wins ever: Laptop, £1000 John Lewis vouchers, PS3, Xbox 360 iPad Mini :beer:0 -
Read Guide, Enter details on Comp page / email and Cross Fingers.
What else is there
Myths explained:
1) There are very few compers that can "win as many prizes as possible, furnishing their houses and travelling the world with their winnings" unless you put in ALOT of hours and are VERY LUCKY. There are no shortcut ways and this is why comping is generally fun based on the unexpected element of prizes won rather than a sure fire way of making a second income for a more decent lifestyle. This is seen by almost all on here as a hobby - not a money making scheme.
2) There are no best ways to enter comps - everything is totally random. It would be like saying which is the best Blackjack table to win at in a Casino.
3) How much can you expect to win? Random - You cannot expect to win a set amount
4) Are there ways to avoid spam - No there aren't#THANKYOUSIRALEX0 -
I enter all that I fancy and sometimes I win - most often not.0
