Hi,
I’ll be moving out in the next month and I’m after a new 37” tv for the lounge
I’ve done some searches and looked about for quite a while but old posts become out of date with tv’s especially
Budget wise, I was originally looking at spending £500 maximum but have seen some deals (like in Asda for a Daewoo but no reviews online) for £400-500 and obviously I’m moving out so a saving would be beneficial
Usage wise, it will be the main lounge tv and will be connected up with sky tv, just standard definition but will want to watch football and F1 on it, I’ll also use it for playing DVD’s and also for the wii, I’ll probably get a decent wii component cable for it and also a better quality scart (oxygen free) to hopefully make the sky picture decent
One possible I’ve found is a Hannspree 37” XV37 GT - a few threads on avforums and here about this one so maybe some members have one? £380 from teleland
http://www.teleland.co.uk/item--Hannspree-37-GT-Freeview-LCD-HD-TV--HannspreeXV37GT.html
opinions? Any other suggestions? Please no suggestions over £500 though
Thanks

I'm looking for eactly the same. I just bought a 28" inch LCD from Tesco while on holiday (the tv provided was too small I couldn't see a picture). Tele went faulty, replaced it this weekend, same make faulty again so I upgraded to a 32" Toshiba for £379.00. Really chuffed that I now want to buy a 37" one for the lounge. I'm struggling finding a deal, my OH has a mobile phone contract due for renewal & there's a few contracts out there (mainly orange) offering a free 37" LCD TV but the contract on the phone is 18 months at around £40 a month (which is OK for him as that's what he pays anyway). I'm against mobile phone contracts though so I stick to PAYG, but for TV, it's probably worth it... ?0

just standard definition but will want to watch football
too much ball judder/fuzzies and too much resolution for SD
the panasonic 37px80 would be the tv of choice for this application but about 100 more than your budget
worth stretching your budget for if you can
I have the 42" ver and the SD/Freeview PQ is superb
p.s. why wait for 1080p - none of his sources provide it
edit: sorry just saw your "nothing" above £500" - so please disregard the above0 -

Im struggling finding a decnt 37" at that price range so im leaning towards Sweets recommendation
I recommend NOT buying any of this 'supermarket' tvs. Dont go off specifications, they REALLY dont tell you anything about what the ACTUAL picture quality is like. Buy a known brand if possible (Panasonic, Sony etc) as they will be FAR less likely to have digital 'problems'
By that I mean ALL (Especially the cheaper end of the market) digital tvs suffer from various unwanted digital things happening on screen.......smearing, artfifacting, flickering and so on. The 'supermakerket brand' tvs tend to suffer from them more.
Samaung have a VERY good reputation for tvs these days so if you cant find anything else I would heartilly reccomend that:idea:0 -

Personally
Its WELL worth the extra dosh. At the end of the day your asking for a large screen for VERY little money which is just asking for problems. The Panasonic is highly regarded as the best 37" there is (For the money):idea:0 -
Budget LCD an absolute no-no and I strongly support Bob-the builder's recommendation of Panasonic plasma 37px80, best for SD and footie! Look at www.avforums.com/forums/index.php for further advice.0

Yet another vote for the Panasonic 37" plasma. As a professional AV installer, I have experience of a wide range of screens and have yet to see a 37" screen which can come anywhere close in terms of picture quality. If you can stretch the budget a little, you will not regret buying a Panny.0

ok, on amazon there are alot of sellers with refurbished or 2nd hand tv's
what about buying one of those instead, i'd get a better brand and tv and aslong as I got 12 months manufacturers warranty then I'd have thought i'd be ok really!
That way I could get something more like:
£400

If you just want SD, go and haggle over a new CRT set, there are some amazing bargains to be got on these now.
You will get a much better SD picture on a CRT than on LCD or Plasma, and at a fraction of the price - fact !0
