OK, I get the idea of haggling for a package deal, & love the thought of trying it, BUT because we tend to save Tesco coupons (equivalent of £2000+ to spend so far), how do I haggle when I'm restricted to one or two companies?

Hi all

Thinking of Thailand next year Jan/Feb time for 2 weeks. Anyone know of any good package deal sites or perhaps best to book flight and accomodation seperately? Thanks for your help.

Hi Juliee,

I'd personally do a DIY job with the Thai trip as most of the package deals you see are only for 10 nights or less - it always surprises me the lack of 14 night deals you see as it seems such a long way to go for a week.

The other big benefit of a DIY job is that you can choose your itinery.
A lot of people don't like Bangkok but I think if you've not been to Thaliand before then it's a must and also if you're doing a DIY job then you'll most likely be flying into the city. Take in a couple of nights there and then move onto a beach resort. You could use of the economy asian airlines such as Air Asia to get me round Thailand domestically.

Hope that's been of some help!

Have a great trip,

Squee

We have just returned from Bangkok and Koh Samui and flew with Eva Airways, it was all organized by Trailfinders, they were brill. Our hotel in Koh Samui we booked ourselves, Trailfinders would have done this for us too but we booked one we liked ourselves( they did have it on their list) through the hotel web site but there are agencys that sometimes do hotels at a cheaper rate than the hotel web sites themselves. Alltogether the trip cost £1,200 each for top hotels and Eva Air was very good. Trailfinders will do everything for you, they also arranged internal flights, their prices are very good, they are on the internet and only have offices around the country not shops. Good Luck

Re Ski holidays; there is a promotion on in certain countries to encourage people to take up skiing and ski hire and passes are being offered for free for 2 separate weeks in January. This is being offered via various tour operators such as Neilson who are currently having a sale.

Crystal Ski
Thomson
First Choice
Erna Low
Inghams
Neilson
Airtours

You do have to go on either

I'm not sure if this is completely relevant but I have just booked a holiday for 21st Jan 2009 through First choice.

I've got a 4 star self catering hotel with flights in Fuertureventura, Corralejo for a week from Manchester for £175 each (inc. credit card fee). The same holiday on another site was £340.

When I looked at ryanair, etc. they seemed like good deals until you added on fees for checking in bags and because of checked in bag you had to add on check in desk fees. This mounted up so we saved by going direct and didn't have to haggle.

All I can say is check around first before booking.

Default Tailor Made Holiday

I have just registered myself to take part in an auction to win a tailor made holiday worth £5000 anywhere in the world. it is only £10 to buy an auction seat.

How great does this sound?

Sounds a bit dodgey to me.

Default Travel Supermarket

I looked up a holiday on this website last year & I phoned FlightandHotel.co.uk regarding an advertised holiday. The guy proceeded to tell me about all of the "extras" that there would be, needless to say that the holiday price was significantly higher than advertised.

I do not think Travel supermarket is very good as the prices advertised are not the true cost of the holiday. Extras included suitcases(quite important if you are going on holiday) priority boarding(which you get anyway with young children) so I would suggest giving them a miss.

I am very surprised that Martin recommends using them, I would avoid them at all costs.

Default prices when you get there...

I went to Turkey last year and I used a lot of tips on this site to get me a cheap family holiday for five. However, when we got there it was more expensive than the UK to eat and drink - how do we know which countries are cheaper once you get there (not including the exchange rate)???

Thanks!

Sam

Hi all, me and my partner are thinking of going to somewhere in Greece however, we are stuck with the dates of 26th May returning 2nd June 09. Everything we have looked at cost's a fortune for that week as it's the school holidays. Just wondering if anyone knows how to get this week in Greece cheaper than what we have seen. We have been quoted more than £300 per person for different places in Greece, that is over our budget unfortunately. I'd be grateful for any response's.

Thanks in advance,

vcrazychickv.

Try Olympic Holidays website they have some good deals to Santorini (even better on 19th May). I find the best deals are always online, we save 100's on travel agents prices. Also try Thomas Cook's website. I'd book myself but we have already booked to Crete. Good luck.

Default Thomson Costa Dorada

Just managed to grab 6nts HB 3star+ hotel for a total cost for 2 adults of £342.35 incl CCC.

A 1 week stay came up at £550 but when I put in 6 nights the price dropped dramatically.

Flying out on Sat 9 May returning Fri 15 May.

Worth being creative when putting your dates in.

We're desperate to find a package holiday for August (anytime...7 days...10 days...14 days...whatever...!) for two adults and a 4 year old (all in one room) - everywhere seems SO expensive for summer holidays but my husband is a teacher so we don't have a choice. We're not worried where in the world as long as:
a) swimming pool
b) one room or self contained studio/apartment
c) warm/sunny/hot

Near the sea/beach would be nice but not a must.

Any ideas where we could find a deal - I've looked on Olympic Holidays but they don't have anything under £1200 for all of us which is a bit above our budget. We would prefer to fly from Manchester/Midlands but can go from Luton/Stanstead/London airports.

Don't mind doing cheap flights and separate hotel bookings but again, I've not been able to find anything under £350 each...why does having children make life so difficult?!?!? hehe
