I'Ve mixed dead sea salts with ordinary shower gel and with olive oil before and both worked pretty good. I'd imagine it would work with cocnonut oil too, but you would prob need to melt it first. i might give this a go also!

Do be aware that your body absorbs more magnesium when your vitamin D3 status is corrected. Dead Sea salts are an excellent way of getting magnesium into the body transdermally but it works best if your body has a vitamin d status at least above 40ng or 100nmol/l. The ideal level is 55ng 137.5nmol/l and that usually takes around 5000iu/daily D3 to achieve, or 20~30minutes full body mdday sun exposure.

ICosmetic grade coconut oil can be bought from

    http://newdirectionsuk.com/shop/products.php?id=10&cp=1

    1kg is £5.00
    5kg is £20.00
They do a variety of different grades if you persist with their website.

Coconut RBD - Certified Organic Vegetable & Carrier Oils - size: 25kg £88.50
Coconut - Vegetable, Carrier & Other Oils- size: 25kg £77.50
Coconut Virgin - Certified Organic Vegetable & Carrier Oils - size: 25kg £130.00

There is VAT and carriage £10 50 on top but Certified Organic comes to £149.50 + £10.50=£160 for 25kg or £3.20 a pot.

Do note this is not sold as food grade but as your skin is permeable whatever you put on your skin will almost certainly (unless it's particle size as used in some sunblocks is too large) be absorbed and detectable in your urine within hours so if it's safe to use on the skin it's probably safe to use for cooking. I'll let you know next week what it tastes like.

    I ordered this
    Coconut Virgin - Certified Organic Vegetable & Carrier Oils - size: 25kg £130.00 + vat + delivery = £160 delivered.
    and it arrived today.
Not actually a huge container. (don't know why but I sort of imagined it would be huge) Common sense should have told me it would be 2.5 times as big as the 10litre container.
    First sample is DELICIOUS.
Have put it into the airing cupboard and will pour some off to try for breakfast tomorrow.
I'm happy to post out samples if anyone wants to sample it before ordering. Going for a 25kg container will be a bit daunting for some.
Comes with a very comprehensive catalogue of other stuff that I'll look at later.

How long do you anticipate the 25kg will last you for Ted?

The best before date is 08/10 so I've plenty of time. We've also got an old fashioned pantry that is usually colder than the fridge. But it was last November Fern posted the coconoil link and so some time after that I started with the 10kg and that's all gone now.
Some went to friends so it's not all been eaten by me.
But I think I must be getting through a pot a week so I'll be lucky if I have any left this time next year.

Effects of Dietary Coconut Oil on the Biochemical and Anthropometric Profiles of Women Presenting Abdominal Obesity. It appears that dietetic supplementation with coconut oil does not cause dyslipidemia and seems to promote a reduction in abdominal obesity.
That was using 30ml/daily 2 tablespoons.

Coconutoil group presented a higher level of HDL ( and a lower LDL:HDL ratio Reductions in BMI were observed in both groups, but only the coconut group exhibited a reduction inwaist circumferences.
Soy Oil Group presented an increase in total cholesterol, LDL and LDL:HDL ratio, whilst HDL diminished
Such alterations were not observed in coconut group.

For those wanting to use it on the skin (as this is intended) this recent paper is interesting.

Novel antibacterial and emollient effects of coconut and virgin olive oils in adult atopic dermatitis virgin coconut oil and monolaurin's O-SSI reduction and in vitro broad-spectrum activity against Staphylococcus aureus, fungi, and viruses may be useful in the proactive treatment of Atopic dermatitis colonization.

They had to apply it twice daily but the virgin coconut oil cleared up 19 of the 20 positive cases in 4 weeks so that's pretty good. Much better than the Olive Oil treatment.

Got my coconut oil today - don't like the taste but melted some into a little hot tea and swigged it back. Lathered it on my face too but it seems to linger a long time so perhaps I used too much as it's really greasy.

I remember using this stuff (cheapy version from the chemist) many years ago on a long holiday in Australia when toasting my body on the beaches.

Well - 3 days in and I'm loving this stuff, apart from the taste that is! I'm taking it twice a day in hot water and suppose that the taste isn't bad, it's just not good. Will probably work up to taking it a third time eventually. However, the difference it's making to me is just amazing. I'm not hungry  feel satisfied with smaller portions (and am LC/HFing) and my sore facial skin has smoothed over and is feeling great.

Long may it last. And thanks to those who suggested this and those who have used it. It's such an improbable idea.
