taless is absolutely right - just one thing - as you are an existing customer i dont think you will automatically get the new rate by upgrading - once you have changed to the classic plus phone/go to branch to check that they have updated the classic plus to the new rate

I don't think you do get a classic plus account just by paying £1000 per month into a classic account - I think you have request it and sign an agreement to upgrade - only then do you get an interest rate dependent on the amount which is paid in...

Best to combine a request for an upgrade with one for the higher interest rate offer into a single visit or call I'd say..

when i had a classic account previously i just phoned up and they upgraded to the classic plus - didnt need to sign up anything- then as long as i meet the criteria i get the interest (previously 4% now 6%) but if i dont meet the criteria in any month i just get 0.1% on the whole balance that is in the account

I think if you are an existing Classic customer, you can just upgrade to Classic Plus online. Try it and see.

I am a Classic Plus customer, so I walked into the branch this afternoon and asked to be changed to the 6%. She started with the standard spiel ("What we do is make appointments for a full review...") but I quickly said, "No, I'm not interested in that" and she dropped it immediately. They hadn't done one before, so she took my details and promised it would be done.

The only trouble is: how will I know? AFAICS there is no way to tell from online banking and the amount I leave in my current a/c isn't usually large enough for it to make a big enough difference for me to tell. Maybe they confirm in writing?

Hmm, disappointing to see that this is yet another bonus for 12 months only 'offer.'

I'm looking for an excuse to return to LTSB from Halifax who dropped the rate on their current account from 6% to 5% recently but it's not worth the hassle if it's only going to be 6% for 12 months.

In summary, great if you already have a Classic Plus account, if not you can get better short term offer rates elsewhere.

Just to report back on my experience, waiting until the end of the day made no difference. I was on the phone for 20 minutes and had to stand my ground to get my request resolved - I'm sure many others would have just accepted the incorrect information provided by the CSA and given up. I was told numerous times:

    - new customers only, then when I pointed out that the website said it was available to existing customers if the telephoned I was told

    - I had to have a balance of £2500 to get the 6% rate (!!!).

When I pointed out that it was up to £2500 I was placed on hold whilst the CSA decided that I needed to be put through to "Customer Queries" and was placed on hold for a lengthy period.
When I got someone at "Lending Services", the conversation took less than 30 seconds. They appear to treat this as an upgrade (even though I already hold a Classic Plus) but promised that I would receive the 6% rate and that the details would be confirmed in writing.

So plus marks to Lloyds for allowing existing customers to access this offer, but minus marks for not properly briefing their Customer Service Advisors on how to process it or, it appears, giving them access to appropriate information.

I DON'T expect them to necessary know all the steps off the top of their head on how to process requests such as this.

I DO expect them to know of their key offers (especially on the first day) and I DO expect them to have access to information telling them how to do things and I DO expect them not to give out false information - if they don't know they should find out or arrange for someone to call back.
