I'm involved with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, although not on the PSP side - it's all PS2 for me. However, we have been told that there's an as yet unannounced reason why you'll want a UK PSP rather than an import.

Sadly, I've no idea what that will be, which is pretty frustrating. There's speculation throughout the company, but they're still managing to keep the secret, er, secret.

I'll be amazed if there's any retailers seliing the PSP for less than the £179 at launch, so the affiliate and/or cash back sites will probably be the best deal, such as the Woolworths/Wanadoo link posted earlier.

If you preorder at a GAME shop, rather than online, you do get a bundle of points as well as a small offer of an extra 25% on trade in games. Deposit is £20, and you can also pay off any extra amount in advance, as long as it's at least £20, so that's a good deal for anybody on a tight budget - interest free finance, in advance.

............Be aware as well that a Jap PSP will play the English UMD Movies when they are released here, as it is encoded to Region 1, but a US PSP will ONLY play US UMD Movies as it is encoded to Region 2. Games have no regions, and you can play Jap / US / English games on any PSP.

    Enough nattering. Hope I've helped.

    Wrong way round.

    Jap & UK PSP's are Region 2 & the U.S. is Region 1.

So, is paying £161.99 (ooo, sorry for being so wildly out on my first guess) no better than paying the £179 that others are quoting?!
  • I brought a PSP back from the States this week it cost $249.99 approx £140.00 the only thing to remember if you import one is the games from the USA and UK are compatable but the DVD's are not you can only play US Dvd's on an import and UK Dvd's on one bought in the UK.

When PSP comes out in UK it will have firmware 2.0, currently you can play homebrew and emulators e.g. snes/mega drive/gb/gba on firmware versions 1.0 and 1.5 only

Actually, I very much doubt this. Firmware 2.00 came out for Japanese PSPs last week (though it does also work on the US ones) and the official US firmware is scheduled for 12th August. Therefore, Sony would have had just under a month to load all UK PSPs with Firmware 2.00 and that's impossible, since the PSPs are already in the UK in warehouses.

I would be surprised if it did come with 2.00, but my money's on 1.52 firmware. As of yet, homebrew is unable to work on the 1.51, 1.52 or 2.00 firmware.

    Nujjy.
    Waddle you do eh?

    Taken from eurogamer.net:

"European PSPs will come with the update (Firmware 2.00) pre-installed, so there'll be no need to faff around..."

Looks like 2.00 for us Europeans.

How could that be a good offer in comparison to the same package from Woolworths for £161.99?
  • Shame Sony have clamped down on ebay sellers of PSP. I bought a Jap Vaule Pack from ebay just over a month ago for £179 including delivery and the Spiderman 2 game. As they were UK based firm tax and VAT were already paid for but the seller I bought it from has stopped selling them. I thought this was pretty good value. :D
