By saying "recover" the psp, does that mean that if you tried doing something to the psp, and it bricked it, then you could recover it, or would you not be able to recover that?

Have just been trying to find out as much as poss about this... So all help appreciated :)

    Cheers

It is not possible to brick your psp using the automatic upgrade (exception being the TA-032 motherboard, and even then I am not sure this would brick it), unless you physically removed the battery whilst it was flashing the firmware. The upgrader even checks to make sure you have more than 75% battery charge before allowing the upgrade.

Check out this forum post http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/about46738.html&p=1 which goes through all the issues. The opening post has been edited to reflect the latest revision, and the following posts are all about the issues with the earlier revision so best to skip a few pages after you have read the opening post.
  • as for a cheaper version of psp...
i've got one on order from a website called zudirect.com. i''ve paid £85 with free postage for a refurbed 1.5 firmware psp with 6 months warranty.
it hasnt arrived after 4 weeks, so i'm not happy, and am still trying to get them to tell me when it's turning up, but if it does, i'll let oyu all know, if it doesnt i'll be onto my credit card company and yelling from the rooftops.
they have apparentl sold out of black psp's now, but they're now doing whites with GTA - liberty free for £99.

i cant vouch for them as i say because mine hasnt turned up yet, but
the question was asked, so heres an answer.
anyone else got expereince of zudirect ???
if its bad experience - i'd really like to know
  • me and 2 work colleagues have also ordered them from here we have also been waiting about 4 weeks, getting very annoyed now.
  • elsey,
3 of us waiting too... me, a work colleague and his brother.

what communication have you have with them?
i've emailed them 1 day after each delay date they gave me, and then i get another postponement. is this your experience too?

whats the latest date you've had?

Things are getting a bit confusing for people on this thread methinx.

All firmwares from 2.0 to 2.71 can play homebrew with the Homebrew ENabler

Even people who have ta-082 motherboards. It small simple and invisible if need be. I bought a psp from woolworths for my son and needed to make sure it was returnable if it ever had a fault. Flashing it down to 1.5 was not an option.

With HEN when you turn the psp on it's a 2.71 official firmware. You just run an exploit (view a picture) to be able to load whatever firmware you wish (from 1.5 to 2.71) and be able to load homebrew etc.

I wrote a guide as simple as possible on the procedure over at the avforums

    HERE

    Might help a few people.

    Cheers

No its not. You don't need DevHook if you are using 2.71 SE-B. Best thing about it is iso's appear in the list of games stored on your memory stick, along with the homebrew. And the UMD is selectable as per a normal game (and you cannot update accidentally unless you buy a brand new game which has 2.8x firmware on it). The only thing that doesn't seem to work for me at the moment is GPSP, but you can still use DevHook to emulate 1.5 firmware if you want to run this (or if you want to over-clock the CPU speed you need to use DevHook although I think there is a new patch just release to easily overclock without DevHook).

Well I just downgraded my 2.61 PSP to 1.5 and applied the above 2.71SE-B firmware onto it, so far so good!

The question I have now is how do I play these ISO's? I have an ISO I wish to try out, I copy it onto my Memory Stick into the \PSP\GAME folder. It then use the PSP to go to the Game module, select Memory Stick, the MS light flashes like mad, then the screen goes blank! I get the feeling I am missing a vital stage!!!! I have UMD loaded as the readme.txt said this is still required.

    All pointers gratefully received :j

    Thanks
  • I'm keeping v1.5 on my PSP. I've got about ~100 PSP ISO games in my collection. :)

Just to reply to my own post, after trawling the various boards I discovered I needed to create an \ISO folder at the root level on my memory card. This may help other out there who have the same issue!

    cheers
