LOL I don't think i'm even getting the one! If u read other threads they stopped this and only let you open one now - the others get declined usually.....

No, I think it just depends on your credit rating and internal rating ... I opened two this morning, both of which are showing up as open and fully active.

You can have up to three Halifax Reward and Ultimate Reward accounts, as per the T&Cs.

I see. So could you pay £1000 salary into one, then move it into another to meet the payin requirement on both? Or would they spot this and close one/both accounts?

There's another thread about the Reward account on these forums. If you can wade through all 14 pages on it, you'll see that this is what many people are hoping to do.

If you were to have multiple accounts the £1000 would have to come from another bank, not internally within HBOS. E.g. do a process of transferring the money back and forth from another bank to the Halfiax accounts. E.g. (if your other account was Natwest) Natwest to Halifax £1000, Halifax to Natwest £1000 again, then Natwest to the other Halifax account £1000, rather than the more siimple internal transfer betweeen Halifax accounts. Though at the moment I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) its unknown whether this can all be done quickly within 1/2hr logging into and out of each account using faster payments, or whether the money has to remain in each account overnight, and of course all of this behaviour of quick money transfers and little 'normal' current account use could be seen by Halifax as manipulating the rules for the £5 reward and result in them deciding to close the accounts in the future.

Good point. Although you could hide it better by leaving the money in for a few days, or even more.

I have just had my phone bill... a call to halifax which was made to upgrade my current account to the reward account cost me £1.80+. It was about an 11min call, which could have been a lot shorter if the agent didn't have to go ask his manager the same question twice putting me on hold twice for most of the call.

    For future reference,

    1) www.saynoto0870.com to find a geographic (i.e.01/02) number that takes you to the same place. If you have free minutes on a mobile this'll count on them, so could be a free call.

    OR

    2) www.halifax.co.uk/bankaccounts/callback.asp to get them to call you back. Then, whether mobile or landline, it's a completely free call at any time of day.

Thanks a lot for this. Those links will be useful.

So looking at my screen than (did you see the image - #7) it looks like mine haven't gone through, if you're are active etc already...... that's weird cos when I logged in the other day it prompted me to add a 'new opened account'...... hmmmm

Yes, I saw your image in post 7.

My screen has my old HICA, exactly as it always was.

Then the new account, it says Halifax Current Account under the roll number (which is a link), and has the 'Take Me To >>' box beside it.

Wait a few days, I'm sure they'll make a decision on it soon.

  • To be honest, from what other people have been saying, if the account was open then there would be the drop down box to the right so my understanding is that the 1st account I applied for (Halifax Reward Current Account / the one with no link on it) has been refused whilst the other two 'awaiting decision' will probably get declined as well.

BUMMER!!! This screen definitely looks different to what others have described theirs as looking like so I guess i'll just keep applying LOL

The general jist (see this link #273) is that it is best to keep reapplying....
