Lost £160.50 on Ebay :0(

Options
I bid & won for an i-pod in July, and the item never arrived - I paid by cheque, so I lost £160.50.

I have finally been able to "escalate my claim" with ebay, and they contacted me a few weeks ago asking for a copy of my bank statement & cheque book stub as proof of payment. So i faxed this back the same day, but havent heard anything since.

I know that ebay will only refund a max of £120 (- £15 admin fee), but I havent heard a sausage from them, and have certainly received no money - what do I do? Does anyone have a phone number?

Grrrrrrrrr!!!

Ebay and Paypal are famous for not helping out people as they don't put their phone number on the site! The only way I know of contacting then is by their help form but they don't answer back (so I've heard!) or by the discussion board where you might get a post from somebody who works at ebay!

I don't know if you have tried getting the seller's details? If not then do that and give them a call to see what's going on.

    HTH

PS I don't know how long the process you're undertaking lasts so I can't help with that aspect.
    Waddle you do eh?

The paypal number is shown on the first or second log in page should you ever need it, however no use in this case as unfortunately the buyer paid by cheque.

Oh, the buyer was a scammer alright, he ripped off two others at the same time (for similiar amounts), so I have since reported him to the police for fraud (we have his correct name & address).

As i said, ive been waiting for July to get my money back, its discusting!!!

ensure you file a small claim, that will give the bloke a CCJ which will make getting credit a bloody nightmare

The number is defined as charge code pn4 by BT,.. 26 pence per minute

I just checked saynoto0870 and they came up with this number

I do hope you get your money back. Just out of interest, did this 'seller' have a good feedback record? I only ask because sometimes I'll look at a person's feedback and it looks pretty good, but then I end up having to wait ages for payment or goods to arrive. I do wonder if people are too afraid to put neg feedback becasue then they'll get neg feedback too!

Anyway, back onto the subject. I really, really hope you get your money back. There are some really unscrupulous people out there. It needs someone to do it to them and then they'll know how it feels!

Just an afterthought and a few things to consider in the future. (Also advice for any new eBayer wanting to buy) Before you buy anything of high value off eBay it's worth considering a few things before bidding/purchasing.

1st- Feedback. The higher the number of feedbacks and the higher the feedback score the better. I wouldn't touch any buyer with a feedback score less than 98% or with less than a 100 positives for high value items. For lesser value I might give new sellers a chance but only if its a really cheap item.

It is also worth checking how long they've been trading too.

2nd- Method of payment. When buying high value goods it's strongly recommended that you pay with Paypal using a credit card. If things do go pear-shaped at least with Paypal you have some recourse. There's always the chance Paypal will action a chargeback to get your money back. If this is not possible, then your credit card company could reimburse you.

Anyway, try the numbers and live chat above to see if you get any joy.

    Good Luck!
