I bought a POANG chair from IKEA at the weekend. Only had it a few days before my cat was sick over the seat! Although the covers are machine washable, I'm concerned they won't come out exactly the same. I've had shrunken covers before. Is there anything else i can do to remove the stain. Preferable a homemade solution. Thanks.

The best thing I've found for getting cat sick stains out of carpets is Shout laundry spray. Sometimes takes a couple of applications, but it has got nasty stains completely out where the things sold for carpet stains e.g. Vanish have failed. Spray the Shout on liberally and rub with a damp soft cloth.
Sorry it's not home-made, but it isn't very expensive! You'll find it in most supermarkets in the laundry section. The refill bottles are cheaper than the ones with the nozzle, so you could always just apply it on a cloth rather than spraying it.
Not sure what fabric your sofa is made of, so I'd test it first on a small unobtrusive area, like the underside of a cushion.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Have a look for products that contain enzymes to break down organic residue. Oxi-Clean is a good one that I know of, as well as various products from the petshop, although these might be more expensive as they are targeted directly at pet-owners. I'm sure you can find cheaper alternatives in the supermarkets. I can't think of anything home-made off-hand but if I do I'll post back"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Doesn't bio powder do that? Could try a weak solution and see if that's any good. When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -
Thank you for all your helpful tips, can't decide which one to try first, i'll see what i have in the cupboard.0

Not quite the same but when my children are sick over sofa I wash covers in just water in washing machine, as soon as possible & spray Febreeze (sp?)on cushions.
Why don't they aim for the wooden floor?

Our big fluffy cat has thrown up all over a white cotton shirt that was on my daughters floor (that'll teach her to pick things up  ) I've put it to soak in cold water before I have a go with the machine but is there anything I can add to the water to help...I dunno...salt maybe? The stain is bright yellow - you may not need to know this but I thought that I'd share it with you all0

If it's white, what about cold bleaching it!Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)0

Sorry, should have said that there is a design of thin black lines on a white background so bleach might take the design off too....she loves the cat to bits so he'll be forgiven regardless but if I could shift the stain I know she'd be happier0

Pink vanish or oxiclean powder - mix in warm water and leave for at least an hour before washing.
I have used this for all sorts of bad stains."This site is addictive!"
