i've done 4 trips to the cosmo hotel already, my 5th is already booked.
one was a 2 night stay, and the other ones were 6 nights...
i have no problems with it for longer than your average "long weekend"0 -
Good Morning,
I am looking for a nice hotel in New York. I have looked at the Affinia chain and they seem to get good reviews on Trip Advisor.... Has anyone ever stayed at one on these in NY?.
I also thought about one of the Marriotts - but they seem very pricey when booking direct with them.
I guess what I really want is a nice hotel for around £150/night - Is this possible in NYC?
And one other question which I hope someone can help with - if you book a hotel on hotelopia - will we be charged extra taxes when we arrive or is this the full price ? - the website is a bit misleading.....
Thanks for any advice guys...

We stayed at this hotel http://www.theroosevelthotel.com/. Loved it,very central. Price depends on when you're going.Member #7 SKI-ers Club

I stayed at Club Quarters Midtown which for a single room was slightly less than £100 per night if I remember - it is small hotel with smallish rooms by NY standards, but everything from front desk service to the fantastic breakfast and crisp sheets was impeccable. I walked just about everywhere - until by feet were too sore - 10 minutes walk in one direction to Empire State, 10 minutes to Rockafeller center in the other.
You could book something on a canceable rate (eg a marriott or through bookings.com) then if you find a better deal or a better hotel you can cancel at no cost.
Have you tried Hotwire - (with the help of betterbidding.com you should be able to id the hotels). Try trip advisor for hotel reviews. Priceline is also worth considering (again there are plentiful guides on betterbidding.com). I originally saw the Club Quarters on Hotwire but then it came up on Expedia for the same money (plus cashback from quidco). Easyclick also has anonymous hotels from other brands too.
I should imagine for £150 a night you should be able to get a decent hotel
nb: some relatives from the states recommended the Park Central Hotel - but it was beyond my budget at the time I was visiting.0 -
This belongs in either the New York any questions thread, or the New York Cheap Hotels Thread..
may i suggest you look at prices on https://www.hotelconxions.com as they do some really competitive pricing on certain hotels in NYC...
also, if you want something a little cheaper, and i bit more villagey feel to the area, you can't go wrong with the cosmopolitan hotel, About $160 (so £85) a night, it is a basic, but lovely hotel..

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply, and the good advice.
I have spent most of the day, and all of last night on the web searching for prices, and reading tripadvisor reviews! I can't believe how much the prices varie from one site to another!. Anyway - I have booked an Affinia hotel after very good reviews on Trip Advisor thru Expedia which seems to include all taxes too. I figured I was getting a good deal as it seemed to be more expensive on other sites. However if I find a better hotel, with a better deal I can cancel for £12 - but I am relieved I have a back up plan.
So, now I can plan my first ever trip to the Big Apple. Could someone please send me a link perhaps to the discussions on what to do etc. I have already read Markymoo's guide to getting around (which is great btw - thank you), but can't find any threads on other things - and I know they will be there somewhere

Help
Have booked a week's cheap flight & have only just realised how expensive the hotels are:o
I'd originally wanted a studio flat so we could cook in house, but the cheapest I could find ( 8-15 March) came to about £850:eek: Have not had the heart to look at hotels yet,
Was I just being a lot naive about hotel prices? Help.. This was suppossed to be a big birthday (with an 0 in it;)) surprise, but I may have to put up with wasting the flight money."This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0
