Morning all
Back to normal today, DH has just gone to work, and I am grabbing a quick cup of tea before taking the dog out.
Was woken up at about 4.00 by the wind blowing a gale, and hoped it would have died down by now, but it is still very windy
Really have to try and lose some weight this year, I put on half a stone between our last holiday and Christmas, and DS is getting married in September, so I want to loose weight for then. Will nip over to the slimmers thread later for some advice :rotfl:
Will go and have a rummage in the freezer for something for tea, and then tonight I want to watch that new thing with Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall, but I think it may put me off chicken altogether
Have a good day everyone xYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
Hello Possums,
Puff, puff, pant, pant.No I"m not breathing heavy. It's soooooo bl00dy hot. Yes I know it's summer here, but since the rain it's like a free sauna experience. :money:
We didn't get the storms last night but other parts of Brisbane did. Cat - yes down south is feeling it too.
They usually miss out.
But being such a OS trooper :rolleyes:I have washed the floors, vacumed upstairs, washed 2 loads, ironed, made a loaf of bread, rice salad & swished the bathroom out. Just call me a domestic goddess girls.
DH mowed the lawn. It was getting really bad. Think Haribo's legs.
He's back to work Wednesday.
Off to the mainland tomorrow to get a load of gear to finish off upstairs and will get a shopping order as well. XDIL & DGS are coming back tomorrow sometime.
Mrs Mix Hope all goes well at the orthopedics.
I hope all whose sick get better soon and take it easy.
Will pop back later. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Good morning everyone! Back to reality Chez Penguin, too
We go back tomorrow, but thought I'd get up with DH, or tomorrow will be even worse  Small Penguins have requested cups of tea in bed at 8:30, then they're going to crack on so that we can have a final trip to the cinema to see Bee Movie.
All the decorations are down, the tree needs chopping up and taking outside. Suppose I need to do something about my festive avatar, too
Will be making some rolls for DD's pack-ups and pizza for tea.
Tru and Odds - hope you feel better, soon
Haribo - pair of matchsticks coming your way :rotfl: I read in the paper that if you're having trouble sleeping, you should try to keep your eyes open (rather than closing them) which has the effect of you feeling more drowsy. I've tried it a couple of times and it's worked for me.
Jet - do you want to come and work your magic at my house..........please :j
Catowen - everything crossed for you - so excuse my typing :rotfl:
Have a great day, Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -

Hiya Everyone!!
It's a back to normal day for me too!
Hubby has already left (been off 2 weeks with the holidays and the lurgy!) so no money for us as he's selfemployed. Both kids are in school today and it will come as a bit of a shock especially as they were both asleep til gone 9 the last 2 days and we'll be leaving the house at 8.30!
Me I'm back at work but was in a few days over the hols anyway, kinda nice getting back to normal me thinks!
I have the TD on, have made packed lunch for DD, porridge on for DS, cat having a mad half hour, soup for lunch fo me then either homemade chicken nuggets with homemade oven chips or homemade rissotto depending on time etc tonight.
Wishing you all great Mondays

All back to 'normal' today DD back to school OH back at work, bliss, a whole day to get myself organised, its nice having them home, but its nice when they are back at school /work. OH has gone off with fridge, peeling soup, basically everything that needed using up, and all the veg peeling. OH is working on a very remote bridge today, in the middle of a valley, re doing the walkway, thats going to be cold.
Chicken pie mash leeks and brocoli for tea, DD loves pie, am going to have a good general clean through today, then give the kitchen a good clean out, I thought i might do one room a day, on my days off, so in a few weeks everything should have has a good spring clean.
Might make some more soup today I think OH had the last of it, also need to make up some pasta cheesy thing for DD lunch.
have good days all xx0 -
Morning all. (((Hugs))) to all poorly ones. This bug just doesn't want to let go, does it?
TRU - I hope you sleep better tonight. The cough kept me awake for nights on end. I managed to sleep upright for a couple of nights but I had to have a cardi on to keep my shoulders warm! It sounds like you've got the same bug that I had; mine started with constant coughing but the cough suddenly went, it didn't hang on for ages afterwards. Hot honey and lemon helped a lot.
CATOWEN - good luck at the hospital.
AUSSIE - I hope you are coping with the weather where you are!
Our local schools all went back last week - hope all those returning this week have a good start back. Surprising how long ago Christmas seems now. We took the last decorations down yesterday and packed them away. I am trying to declutter but our neighbours are moving to a smaller house just up the road and asked us if we wanted some of the stuff they were throwing out so we now have a lovely little desk with three drawers in it which I will be putting in the spare bedroom; I shall use the drawers for all my non-Christmas wrapping up stuff - one for cards and the others for paper and ribbons. At the moment it is all stuffed into a box that gets into a mess every time I need to use it. They also gave us a petrol-driven steam cleaner and a couple of other hand tools which DH is delighted with. He swapped the steam cleaner for our electric one which they are just as pleased with.
DH spent Saturday afternoon helping DS2 replace the pump in his power shower. There turned out to be not much wrong with the old pump - it just had a leak which DH can easily repair but DS2 wanted to fit the new one (not very OS, is he? He could have taken the new one back and got a refund! It cost £130! The boy needs educating!) He was going to throw the old one out but DH is going to repair it. I was glad he went round to fit the new one, though, because they discovered that the power supply to the shower was far too close to the water supply so they moved it right out of the way.
DS2 and his GF are getting married in August (on the 8th day of the 8th month of 2008 - 8 years after they met!) so, now that we are into the new year, that suddenly seems quite close! We have friends who own a beautiful two-storey apartment in an exclusive complex in Marbella in Spain - we have stayed there twice before and it is a stunning place; they usually rent it out for the summer for £800 a week (and it is always fully booked!) but they are letting DS2 and his GF have it for £350 a week for two weeks for their honeymoon! I need to do some research for them to find out how much car hire will be and flights and so on. Our local airport at Southampton flies direct to Malaga (the nearest airport to Marbella); it's obviously dearer than flying from Gatwick but will cut out such a lot of time - check-in is only one hour as opposed to three from Gatwick and they won't need to pay for a taxi or car parking because we can drive them to the airport and pick them up. Anyway, I shall be keeping you up to date with the wedding plans. Last year it was DS1's lovely wedding in Italy and now my youngest baby is getting married! I still can't believe it!
Well, today's plan is to finish tidying up the front room now that the decorations have come down. I should have done it yesterday but we had coffee with the neighbours who are moving and that threw the rest of the day's plans out of the window. I'm sorry to see them move from here but their new house is only five minutes drive away and it is a good move for them. The husband has suffered for years with arthritis yet still works very hard; now that their children have left home, they are downsizing into a more manageable house and this move will leave them mortgage-free. Redundancy is looming for him this year so he'll be able to live an easier life with some money in the bank. They are lovely people and really deserve this change in their fortunes. Their new house is right opposite a lovely pub so we will be enjoying a few evenings with them there!
Anyway, where was I? Oh, yes, today's 'to-do' list. I have two loads for the WM and one for the BM; dinner is left-over stew followed by left-over plum crumble so I don't have any food prepping to do today, which is great! I have paperwork to catch up on and will try and visit the gym. I haven't been for over two weeks, what with being ill and Christmas, so I'm looking forward to that even though I know it will be hard going at first.
Anyway, will see you later. DH needs his morning cuppa!
