I'm sure it's none of the DFW regulars BLTN.

    I'm afraid it is Spud.

I to would like to give my support to Rog and Fermi.

OP, I'm really glad bankruptcy has worked out well for you, and I know for some it is the right decision - some of the people I respect most on DFW have gone through bankruptcy.

But I do think it is slightly dangerous to call it a 'fresh start', because it isn't a 'wipe the slate clean and start again' deal. It will affect you for the rest of your life, because you will always have to declare it whenever you are asked, and it will damage your credit rating for years.

I don't want this to turn into another DFW v BKY thread, I just wanted to point out that it CAN work for some people, but it needs to be given very careful consideration, and for all other avenues to have been explored too.

TF, I'm sure you get trolls coming in just to cause trouble, the same as we do in here, but I cant believe any of the 'regular' DFW posters would set out to cause anyone any upset etc.

If I'm wrong, please feel free to let us know who they are.

The DFW regulars have never been anything but supportive and helpful to me.

Hi-Did not for one minute want to cause problems-I try & help a lot of people on the other board-I just see some posts where people could quite obviously (given the right advice & again I stress not for all) go BR & not have all the heartaches/hassle & stress. After all-the BR procedure is a legal way to clear your debts if you can't afford them.

I can see that the perceived 'stigma' of BR & the good old 'british upper lip/pride/martyr' thing is stopping some people from making a fresh start-that's all. Why struggle when in many cases BR can end the pain? Last post on this-I genuinely think BR is an option that should be considered-rather than 'scrimping' for years, possibly making yourself mentally ill in the process-just to say 'I've paid it all back'. Lifes too short.

My life is SO much better-I don't have the worries I had 2 months ago & in a few months once discharged I can start my life again.

Thanks Spud, they know who they are and I do not want to create a problem with a them and us war again. We've been through it and come out the other side.

I do agree though 99.9% of the board members are absolutley wonderful and very supportive and I for one wouldn't be with as far as I am today without them. So :T to them

  • but for SOME on here it could be the answer??

You've answered your own question. :)

For some it COULD be. I don't criticise anyone for chosing bankruptcy, IVA's, DMP's or paying it all back.

You have to do what is right for yourself and for whatever reasons. Not what other people think you should do.

So whether thats means bankruptcy or comitting yourself to paying it back over the next 20 years, it's irrelative. We are here to support people. Simple as. :)

I genuinely do not believe it is a pride issue whatsoever, we have generated this debt so if we're in a position to pay it off - why wouldn't we?

As for those who have assets, it simply is not an option ... all to lose and buggar all to gain!

Sorry, maybe I am taking the moral high ground, but I would feel much better knowing that I have worked to clear my mistakes as opposed to going to court and getting it written off in an hour ... it may work for some but the peeps on this board are here fore a reason ... Debt Free Wannabes not Bankrupt Wannabes.

Hmmm ... don't think posting things like that is really appropriate !!

No one is trying to insult users of either board on this thread, from what I can see. OP made a point, based on what they have been through so far, others came back with reasons why they want to or have to go via an alternative route.

Rog2 came along and gave a balanced view, showing that it is not as easy as wiping the slate clean and having a fresh start, and that is what this is supposed to be all about - being balanced!

Please, don't turn this into any sort of them and us slanging match, this thread was not insulting, please keep it that way.

Madmouse it works both ways,I haven't seen any post in this thread that says BR is the easy way out,it is the fact that for so many of us it would be the hard way out,we have not chosen it.
I don't see anybody judging anyone who has chosen the bankruptcy route,I like to think I am supported with my choice of a DMP,but I also would like to think, that one day if my circumstances change,I would also be supported through BR on the BR board,I have to say though,it does feel a bit of an us and them situation and I would be quite scared to post on the BR board, despite understanding a fair bit about bankruptcy (parents went BR a few years ago) there have been times when I feel I could add some input onto a thread on the BR board, but because I am not,or considering BR myself,I am tossed aside as if my opinions don't matter. When I post on other boards,my opinions are welcomed :D

  • The problem is though its been a "them & us" situation for some considerable time now...certain DFW posters seem to like stirring up trouble on the BR forum..pointless I know but as you know people who are for whatever reason at their wits end & have no where to turn to find themselves on the BR forum & to be honest if i'd have read some of the so called "advice" posted from DFW trolls i'd have run a mile..most people understand why BR is faced it's the few that think it's still the easy way out when simply it's not...to truly understand BR you must become BR

I only stated my oppinion & had no intention of starting a slanging match...seems to me the work has already been done before I came

As Rog said all boards are for help support and advice....I happily welcome any input from anyone and will always thank them for that, I never have and never will turn anybodys advice down, I have learned a great deal from this site as wel as reading on DFW
