I can smell Marajuana in my house!

Options
My neighbours smoke this which I have no problem with at all if thats what they want to do, the thing is.. its making my house smell of it too!!!

Its making me really angry but dont know what I can do.. dont even know where its coming through, it cant come through the walls surely?

It smells the most in my master bedroom. I leave my window in there closed & also the bedroom door but you go in it smells as if somebody has been smoking in there.

It also smells outside the house.

I'm a non smoker so my house smelling of smoke is really upsetting..

Any ideas what I can do?

  • My boyfriend also has this problem too.

He has tried using a combination of the Oust plugin diffuser (the ads say that this gets rid of the thing that cause the smell i think), whist using one he likes the smell off aswell. This has helped a bit, but his room now always smells of a mix of marajuana and strong smelly overpowering fragrence!

I'm not really sure what else to do either, so I will be intrested in the replies too!

Just sit back, relax, chill & inhale....

Just kidding...! I'd have a word with them. Not sure how you'd word it though..! Do you have kids? That could be a good reason to mention it: 'DS or DD have been asking what the strange smell is ...'

Tough one though, they are in their house, so not sure what you could actually do about it.
:D I am in the future you know...

If it is an old house you live in, you may be interested to know that smoke can travel through walls(well the odour can), if you are on speaking terms with the neighbours maybe a gentle word in there ear will help come up with a solution (e.g they smoke outside only)

Grassing (sorry no pun intended) your neighbours up, could result in a lot more trouble in the future, just have a polite word instead.

I'm not a smoker, but I know a few and I can just imagine their reaction if their neighbour complained about smoke coming through the common wall.

I don't think any of them would be agreeable to smoking outside their own home to keep their neighbours happy.

Is their maybe some form of non-permeable paint or coating that you could put on the common wall to prevent the odour from coming through? Maybe some silicon sealant around the skirting boards would help, too?

This is a problem that I've never encountered. I live in a flat and can only remember smelling the downstair neighbours' smoke in the summer months, when the living room window was open and they were smoking at their living room window, which is right underneath ours.

Maybe using a vinyl wallpaper would help cure the problem.
I do smoke, but if my neighbour came round complaining of the smell, i'd want to inspect the smell for myself first before deciding what action i'd take.
(I only smoke outside, cos it's not fair on my wife and kids having to inhale my smoke)

We had this problem with dope smoke coming through to my 3 year old's bedroom. The house was rented so we didn't expect much. We went round, they said they'd stop, they did for about a week, got bored and it started again. So we phoned the owners and the tenants were given their notice, the landlord said they weren't happy with them anyway and this gave them a valid reason. I feel we gave them the chance to sort it out and I wasn't going to tolerate my son's room stinking of dope.
