    from BBC News:
Meanwhile parents of children aged one or two will receive £4 a week more in child tax credit, from 2012

so, basically, only any good for those that have a child less than one year old at the moment...

and there was me for a short moment happy that the 8% rise in my sons nursery fees had been offset a little!

I suppose because 3+ year olds have the free schooling thing.

Surely it should be the childcare element that raises, not just a broad thing for all 1-2 yr olds! Not every under 3 is in day care!

I agree it's school aged children that would benefit from a higer allowance! They cost way more than babies and toddlers!

Does this mean there is no increase at all for those with children over the age of 2? With an 11 year old and 14 year old it is a bit of a struggle and I rely on the child benefit.

There's no doubt the cost of living has shot up in recent years, food prices have gone up astronomically and older children can eat like horses forcing many families into food poverty.

So I'm also questioning why he's targeted small children. Perhaps he needs the birth rate to go up so these youngsters will grow up, work and earn and become tax payers to fund civil service pensions  Who knows his reasoning behind this.

Older children certainly cost more than babies, yet this hasn't been factored for, hmm.

Child tax credits has gone up for 2010/2011 but by the looks of it not much, the child element has increased by £65 a yr per child.

I thought the current government were trying to help families but it seems they only wants to help those with babies. Our cost of living has gone up, no pay rise for two years and we have used up all our savings just to pay our bills.

You're right, and I don't want to sound alarmist but if energy prices are going to increase, esp petrol, then food prices are going to also go up by a lot more than inflation.

Have you seen the prices lately of smartprice/basic stuff in supermarkets? They are costing more and going to cost more than branded named stuff did about 18mths 2yrs ago..Its getting frightenening and I do not know how disabled people on benefits are managing right now or even those on job seekers who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own.

    They got my sympathy.
