    Hmmm. Smells of wind-up.

It's either that or OP isn't telling the whole story. I suspect if it is true, she was taking the !!!! and running round long after the store was supposed to stop trading.
  • Couldn't understand it!!

As my dad always says, "Why ruin a good story by telling the truth?" :rotfl:

  • what some people said here is correct. My parents have their own small supermarket, I really understand what workers think when they work in a supermarket. but what I wanted to express is:
1, I have been very near to the oil shelf. I was wearing high-heeled shoes and a long narrow skirt but I was really running like a 100 meter runner.I am not that kind of person who don't understand people in public service sector.

2, The staff didn't want to hear me any word as if I was running to fight with them. I was really shocked with their attitude, but I behaved politely and avoid any quarrel with them. I don't like that kind of impolite behavior.I think people shouldn't be so impolite as they are working in a public sector. The man is over 40, he should be a british gentleman.

3, They tried to pull me out even when I stopped and tried to explain.

4, They were shoutting to me all the way when I was approaching cashier.
  • high heels, pencil skirt, running like a 100m runner.... no annoucements before 3.55pm.... it isn't ringing true! if it is, a complaint to the manager may make them speak to the staff or review the CCTV.

  • I agree, working in a supermarket for 4 years before and during uni i had to deal with a lot of crap from customers, to being kept at the checkout untill 4.25 somestimes when customers think it is their god given right to keep everybody waiting for them!

You may moan, but think of the staff there, who most likely wanted to have finished work and be elsewhere! I was one of the lucky ones that got time 1/2 but most of the staff didnt!

If you will serve me at 4,25, then I will shop until 4.25. If you close the tills at 4 then I will finish my shopping at 4.
Not my problem - this is common practice in shops and the only way to stop it is to shut the tills at the advertised closing time - not allow customers to wander around and then moan because I can't decided which make of fish finger i want for tea.
You are there to serve me - end of story.

If your parents have their own supermarket, why didn't you get some oil from them?

Shops are open all the hours God sends nowadays, and if you can't organise yourself, then it's not really their fault - they probably have families they want to get home to by 4pm on Sunday.

More profit for the shop if they buy it from Tesco than the wholesaler.

When I worked at a supermarket hardly anyone finished at closing time - they finished half an hour after closing time. Common sense really, there's a good 10-15 minutes worth of things to do after the customers have left.

I assume by "time 1/2" you're referring to the pay for that half hour. That's not a case of "lucky" and "unlucky". I'm pretty sure that's a case of "legal" and "not legal", or alternatively phrased "not a pushover" and "pushover".

What you're saying makes sense except for one problem - queues. Supermarkets HAVE to keep their tills open past 4 as many people will join the queue before 4 and get to the front after 4. However they can't possibly have a member of staff making sure no one joins the queue after 4, so they have to be allowed too.

That's fair enough, but some customers will be still shopping at 4:05 and ignoring the staff's requests to stop shopping, finally joining the back of the queue at 4:10. At that point we can't just refuse to serve them, as that would REALLY annoy them and we would like to be known for good customer service. So we would serve them, but would you call that customer blame free?
