Thanks MichH,
I used the chorizo that you buy in a horseshoe shape, already cooked I think, is this right? or should I have used uncooked chorizo, TIA Swan
Swannee_D - apologies, forgot to post our verdict. The chorizo was slightly chewy, but this is normal. I did pre-cook it but only very slightly to release a bit of the fat to cook the chicken in.
I also used the horseshoe shape. I usually cut it into 1/2 cm slices and very lightly fry in a non-stick pan with no oil in it, as the chorizo is quite oily.
I should also add that we do eat late in the day because of OH's erratic work hours, so although I put the stew on at 7.30 it didn't get eaten until about 8.30, though I switched off the slow cooker for the last half hour. Maybe the extra hours cooked softened it, although the chicken was shredded by the time we ate.0 -

Anyway, I've put it through the dishwasher, left it to soak in a variety of substances - and it doesn't come off. So I was thinking of putting a squirt of stardrops and some water in it, then putting it on to slow cook on high for a couple of hours (same kind of theory as putting a bowl of water in a microwave to cook to steam the microwave).
I know it's a very small possibility, but I don't suppose anyone else has tried this? Do you think it would be ok?
I buy a bottle of fairy pre wash spray squirt stubborn areas then rub away the marks. I use it on my oven base too. Its expensive but one bottle last six months or more so I dont mind.0 -

Can anyone tell me if I can add Couscous to spag. bol. to bulk it out?
I have two boxes in the cupboard but DD1 informs me she doesn't like it and I don't know what to do with it now
Any other recipe ideas??0 -
Just learned a new trick which I am really pleased with! Sit your plates/bowls on top of the slowcooker whilst it's cooking and you get toasty warm crockery for free!0

I'd be interested to hear if it works. What about making a batch of couscous up with salad dressing, salad bits and chopped nuts and having it for lunch each day until it's gone? I do it with quinoa and that's really nice.0 -

Yesterday's Jerk Chicken and Beans was delish.
This morning, before dashing off to work, I loaded up the slow
cooker with pan-fried pork sausages, chopped red peppers, onions and mushrooms, beef stock, a bottle of Guinness and a sprinkling of smoked paprika.0 -
Hi All
After a successful first go at using my slow cooker (I made sausage casserole), my second attempt (beef casserole) has gone a bit t*ts up
I'm not sure if I cooked it for too long (12 hours on low) as I was out from 8 am to 9.40 pm!!! Some of my veg is looking slightly green or black (mainly the red onion) but I'm not sure if its just the herbs in the stock that has caused this???Am I going poison myself if I eat it???
And I can't get the liquid to reduce at all, any tips would be really helpful;)
I don't want to get disheartened using it as I love the fact I can just leave it cookingHSBC Unsecured Loan current total £11,921, Amazon Credit Card £355 (will be cleared in March 2009)

I blame you all on this forum for making me buy a slow cooker!! I used my birthday money yesterday to buy the 4.5l Breville SC which is curretly on offer in argos.
How did you find the 4.5lt Breville SC? I am thinking of getting this one too but there are currently no reviews on the argos website.. Was thinking of either this one or the Morphy Richards which most people say it good on this site. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
