I've heard a few times that the police don't like ex forces in firearms maybe because we're taught to shoot to kill.....and spray bullets wildly while doing it hehe

I don't fancy the Police its to PC for me....I don't do PC

To be fair to the police, I'm pretty sure the guy has PTSD. I once went to a fireworks display with him, and he ducked every time there was a bang! Probably not the best trait in a firearms officer....

And yes, the police is very PC, annoys the hell out of my boyfriend but he keeps his mouth shut.

Just project coordinator, some communications stuff, not really sure to be honest. I wasn't listening.

I'll find out when I turn up.

    :)

    It's not rocket science anyway.

Oh - and the rate is 1/3rd of what I was on 8 years ago. So nothing to write home about.

    Huge congratulations PN!

Now you have got yourself sorted, I best get my bum into gear and try just that little bit harder...if that is possible!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I work for one of the Big 4 but I'm most definitely not an accountant - more of a niche consulting role.

That pretty much sums up my job too.

Congrats on the new job PasturesNew!!!

Firstly, congrats to PasturesNew. I love your comment to Generali that you weren't really listening to your new duties and that you'll find out when you get there. Made me chuckle.

I work as a self-employed travelling Health and Safety Consultant working exclusively within the circus industry. I basically get contracts with various circuses and spend a number of days doing health and safety checks before they perform to the public. This could include ensuring that all clown shoes meet the regulated length or checking that custard pies and other 'confectionary projectile objects' (as we call them in the trade) are between exactly 10 and 16 degrees in temperature. I also check the tightness of the main tent, check that no actual cannonballs have lodged themselves in the cannon, count the unicycle wheels (one per bike normally) and ensure that the freakshow is no more than 60% freakier than standard.

Work was slow up until the well known Circus Review Act of 2005 which set out the new EU rules for all touring circuses. It's a 825 page document which covers everything from the maximum length of the ringmaster's moustache to the acceptable transparency level of the trapeze artist's leotards. Some call it bureaucratic, but it's keeping me in work.

Must dash, I've a new batch of clown's noses from Germany that I've got to check for acceptable redness and squeeziness.

I am an unemployed circus clown. Since the new regulations came into force certain elements of my act, particularly the bucket of faeces joke, have been outlawed. I am working on a new angle, using pigs blood instead, which will hopefully get me back in business.

Is that it for on-call? They certainly do rip you off. Out with a lady and the proverbial hits the fan for you to deal with at 63p an hour:mad:

God I think my OH thought it was more than that - She's just started her preceptorship in a hospital near Cambridge on band 5 for 12 months. The other interviewing trusts said it was an 18-24 progression to band six.

Yes that is what we are paid for an on call! Although on a weekend night they are a bit more extravagant we get £15 for the night so about 93p an hour!
Not only that but we work from 9am to 5pm, do the on call same night from 5pm to 9am following day, and then have to work 9am to 5pm that day even if we were out all night.
The UK maternity services run on the good will of the midwives, although I must admit I love my job and wouldn't want to do anything else, I hated nursing, it just wasn't for me. But I do think the government and individual trusts take the p*** out of us. What other career would you have all that responsibility for 63p an hour?
When you're on call it disrupts your family life, you cannot leave the area, can't have a glass of wine (not that I'm an alky its the principle!). Worse again is the fact that we are supposed to promote homebirths, trust policy is that 2 midwives should be present if possible, with a paramedic called as a last resort, yet they will only pay for 1 of us to be on call, so we take it turns to cover the on call midwife as back up, if called out as a second on call to back up our colleague we get absolutely nothing. Last homebirth I did was in December, being Christmas none of my colleagues were available as back up, so I dialled 999 to get a paramedic, there were no ambulances in the area as they were all out on emergencies. Fortunately all was well, but what if it hadn't been, I was unsupported and had no back up and all for 63p an hour. If they paid us our hourly rate if we actually get called out it would be something, but we are expected to take time back instead. Due to staff shortages this is not possible, I am owed about 60 hours time for last 6 months, have been told I may be able to take 15 hours in August! Is a farce!

I'm a chartered surveyor although technically now that I have stopped working (by choice) and no longer pay the subscription to the RICS I can no longer call myself chartered, so I suppose early retired is the correct phrase (just as well looking at the market)
