Get a highly rated CyberHome CH-DVD400 Multi Region Capable DVD Player for £19.99 at Amazon. It really is the best DVD player you can get for this sort of money and will play just about anything you can throw at it.

I got one of these myself when it was £24.99 and it's brill.

Have already ordered now, so you think the one you have quoted above is better if so may change my mind.

Have a look at this link for the US Amazon site http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000A0AJH/ref=pd_ts_c_th_1_5/002-0351669-6375277?%5Fencoding=UTF8

Different model number but looks exactly the same in the picture and works out at $19.99 after rebates. Wow thats about £11-12, maybe a sign of things to come.

Not sure exactly how the "Mail In Rebate" works, but it's academic as they won't ship here anyway - but I do see your point.

Stateside prices are always cheaper. That's why US Amazon (and many others) won't ship to the UK.

Sounds like "rip off Britain" as usual, with the pound being so strong you would think it would be cheaper here as they are all manufactured in one country and then imported. I am sure there probably is a legitamate reason for price differences and I am sure people have written volumes on the subject but as a simple consumer the internet does make the world a smaller a place and its easier to compare prices.

The difference is VAT and funding the NHS.

The NHS is a bottomless pit of funding requirements. Take it away and say goodbye to a lot of heavy taxation.

Most of our fuel and road tax goes on it too.

Just bought a Technika 103 DVD Player from Tesco for £17.97
    • Slimline mirror finish front panel
    • Full feature remote control
    • Widescreen compatible
    • SCART
    • S-VHS Output
    • Component video output for progressive scan
    • Co-axial output for digital quality audio
Tried a couple of DVD+R's ... play just fine !

Also plays CD audios, and MP3's & displays JPEGs

Make it multi-region by doing this:

    turn on tv and dvd
    open tray
type 9736 screen should show region 2
    type 0
    screen should show region 0
    wait for screen to clear
    there you go all done

Tried this hack and it now plays all my Region 1 discs.

Looks pretty good .... especially at that price !!

Wouldn't swap our NHS system for anything in the world. Sure it has it's flaws, but it's one heck of an organisation.

I'm currently relying on the NHS a the mo, and there's not another organisation in the world i'd trust with my life. So what, if you infer that a few extra bucks VAT goes towards funding the service.

Pretty ignorant comment from you imho.

    Hi folks,
Just bought this player (Technika 103 for 18quid from Tesco) for my mum and dad and I am experiencing an audio glitch/slight jump in sound as the film plays through from the end of one chapter to another. I am just wondering do u experience a similar problem. (I am a bit of a perfectionist sometimes!!!)

Other than that the player seems to have excellent picture etc for the price.

I just can't decide if the sound problem (minor as it is) is a design fault or a specific unit fault.

Oh I am just using the stereo inputs on the parents telly (line in). I have also selected stereo where I can in the DVD menus.

So far just played Kingdom of Heaven and The Interpreter

I might just go and see if I can find a firmware update (I doubt it on such a cheap player!!)
