Yes dual layer and supports RAM if required

Or does anyone else know of something better, same price, same features and cheaper?

Correction, bought two, so far installed one and its working hard and slow to see the RAM, once it finally recognizes the RAM it wont actually play it back, have not tried any backing up yet to see if it works.

To the poster who previously said that it did support RAM and had tested it, with what software was it and have you been able to play any RAM recordings?

So far I have had better results with an old NEC DVD-CDRW combo that is not even meant to see RAM!

How were the recording's made? If they are made on a Panasonic (TV) DVD Recorder you need to rename the .VRO to .VOB files. Then a DVD playing package will play the recordings.

I am having some luck with latest power DVD after borrowing it, but windows media and win dvd 5 are not having any of it.

Previously I have never had to rename anything and they played in everything, even Real player if I remember correctly.

Just opened the IFO file with whatever programme I prefer, which in the past has been WIN DVD, might be better trying version 7 at some point.

Not sure if you mean me as I have received the drive this morning, I am currently backing up 2.7gb of files to a Ram Disc I got today, so far so good, just format the disk first and drag and drop or File>send> menu. I dont have any DVD Ram Recordings to test as dont own a DVD recorder but its working 100% for what I need. Hope you have more luck! Theres a quick guide here for using DVD Ram in Win XP as seems to sometimes see the Ram Drive as a CDRW!

Riker... How come you don't get the Amazon RAM disks? Maybe you don't need 10 or can't get it up to £15 with something else for free delivery..or need them now?

Yes I wanted the discs today and only need 5, ended up getting them from Comet, £9.99 for 5 (Pana own)
  • Thanks to OP...just ordered one...hopefully I'll get this not like the Play.com fiasco with the pioneer

That is an old drive SVP have a NEC driver with RAM support for £28ish.. and do not forget the SVP 99p shipping thread on the grabbit board linked.

I've also posted some thoughts on the possible use of RAM disc for longer term storage like backups and the potential problems with back up made to RAM disks using XP without addtional software like Nero. Just some thoughts and suggestions.

If you fancy being flash with your DVD recordings you could go for the NEC ND-4551 rewriter. This one will burn images on special 'labelflash' DVD-R's - so no need for a printer. Just put 4551 in the search box at https://www.svp.co.uk to find the drive and the special DVD-R's (though you can use any DVD's in it).

If you are not bothered about the ability to burn images on these special disks then I would recommend the NEC 4550 too.
