Did my weekly shop at Lidl yesterday, £25 for the week, even included some tealights and a treat for easter for my big girl. That should be it for me now until last week in Feb as off on holiday next Saturday... yippee :j

Well, ive had 2 NSD's which im very proud of, but today, I will need to get potatoes, cereal, milk AGAIN, and im sure theres a couple of other things I need too, so, once ive been shopping, I will update later on.

I was telling my SIL that I got Lidl dishwasher tablets, and that they were only £2.99, but, she says the poundshop sells dishwasher tablets, and thats what she uses and she says there great! Has anyone else tried these? Im sure she said she gets 40 tablets in a pack. I will defo be going there next time for my tablets.

Im looking for some ideas for snacks for the family. My lot like snacks especially DS#1 whos 10! ATM hes eating like a horse, but, im at a loss as to what to give him from snacks that dont cost the earth. Dont get me wrong, he will eat junk until the cows come home, but, i want to give him and the rest other, better things to eat. What does everyone else give their lot for snacks?

We've been making a few things at the weekend to eat as part of packed lunches and after school snacks:

Banana loaf cost approx 75p in ingredients
Twinks Hob Nobs approx 85p - we made 38 biscuits - some could have been a bit smaller :D
    Marble cake approx £1
    Economical fruit cake approx 65p

All cakes/loaf were the 2lb loaf tin size.

We're going to try some different biscuits today, plus the marble cake has been requested yet again!!!

I found Twinks Hob Nobs and the Economical Fruit Cake recipes either on this thread or another MSE thread, a search should locate them for you. There is a banana cake recipe on here which is very similar to my banana loaf recipe.

I'll post the marble cake recipe a bit later, I need to go and wrestle the dough from the bread maker - I'm going to try baking it in the oven today to get 2 more manageable size loaves rather than the usual tower block.

  • Hope Twink doesn't mind me cutting and pasting her recipe, it's brilliant.

    8oz sr flour
    8oz sugar
    8oz porridge oats
    8oz margarine
    1tbsp golden syrup
    1tbsp hot water
    1/2 tsp bic soda
mix flour, oats and sugar, melt marg, syrup and water in a pan stir in bic soda and add to dry mix, mix well, make smallish balls and put on greased tray and flatten slightly with a fork, 180oc for 15 mins, cool on the tray, you just want them golden in oven not brown
