Our BR Diary, from start to finish......

Hi everyone, I hope no-one minds me starting a BR diary here, it's more for my own reasons, to be able to see in black and white what we're doing and where we're going
Sunday 11th Nov. 2007
Now that we have made the decision that BR is the only way forward for us we told my Mum, who was wonderful, supportive and totally non-judgemental about the situation, which was exactly what we needed
Monday 12th Nov. 2007
What a very busy and productive morning I've had
. I have called:
1. CCCS, was on the phone for an hour to THE most lovely, helpful lady called Donna (good job it's free), she was just fantastic - she totally agreed (after we did the debt-advice thingy) that BR was the best option for us and she addressed all my concerns and had helpful, informative answers to all my questions. We have agreed that with immediate effect, we will stop paying all our creditors and save the money for a. moving into rented accomodation and b. the BR fees themselves. (she asked me where or who has recommended CCCS to me and when I told her MSE she said "ooooh, I love that website, it's fantastic!)
(We're going to be losing our house, but we're okay with that, we have accepted it and we now see moving into rented as a lovely, fresh new start, we aim to be in by end of January hopefully)
2. Called a local estate agent who is letting a house that would be perfect for us. Explained the situation about our house being reposessed and asked would we be considered as tenants? Well, good news - yes, we would. There are, of course, some conditions. 1. We would need a guarantor and 2. We would need to pay 6 months rent in advance. Now this would not be as difficult as it sounds because we will be able to save quite a bit over the next couple of months from not paying any of our creditors and any that we are short my mum would lend to us and we would just pay her back at the monthly rental amount. Obviously there's a very good chance that the house we have our eye on will be gone by the time we're in a position to move, but there's quite a lot of properties for rent around here, so I don't think we'll have too much of a problem finding somewhere suitable.
3. I've saved the best until last
I have called our local court and have booked the BR itself for Monday 18th Feb next year. Again, spoke to a lovely helpful woman who went through everything with me, she is sending the forms in the post to us (to save our printer and ink!) and she couldn't have been nicer.
So, there you go....... the story so far. H also went over to see his mum & dad today to tell them all about it and there were absolutely great, totally supportive and behind us 100% and really, as long as we have the support of our family I really couldn't give a stuff what anyone else thinks
Tune in tomorrow for the next installment.....!

Hi Scarlett,
You've made a great start, & your positive attitude will be key to helping you get through this. It's a good move to give yourself some time before going to court - there's no point in rushing it if doing so means you don't get all the info you need sorted out in time, & with 3 months to go (it'll fly by) you've got plenty of time to get yourself organised.
If you'll be needing a new bank account, please take a look at the sticky here. MSE is having some problems at the moment, so it might not start on the first page, but hopefully that'll be sorted out soon. Although some people have had no problems opening a new account before going to court & keeping it after going BR, many others have either had the account frozen (which has caused them short-term problems) or closed altogether, which has made it urgent they get a new account sorted out as a matter of urgency. My usual advice is to open the account on the day you go BR (but after your court hearing so that you don't have to declare it on the SOA) or the day after. Another thing to bear in mind is that, even if a bank tells you you can keep your existing account, that decision is often only a local one which subsequently gets reversed by head office later on.
Anyway, good luck & please continue to keep us posted.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

Thank you wherediditallgo (loving your name, how very appropriate :rotfl: ), I was a bit concerned that I'd be frowned upon for posting my witterings and ramblings here
Well, we're with Natwest right now, who I've heard are notorious for assuring BRs that they can keep their accounts but then later on freezing them. So, I'm taking no chances! We're planning to, as soon as we leave the court, to head straight over to the Co-op and open new accounts thereWe'll be withdrawing every penny with have from Natwest on the days leading up to BR so a. they can't hold on to it (we don't have any debt with them, but I'm not taking the risk!) and b. so we have money to live on while waiting for the new accounts to be opened

There's no problem with you doing a diary - I've been doing one on here for several months.
I've found it very helpful to me, as it's helped me keep things organised & vent in a virtual world rather than at actual people around me. When I've been feeling down, it's been great to look back through it & see how far I've come. Other members have told me they've found my diary very useful to them, as it's good to know other people have faced the same or a similar situation & have got through it. So keep on posting.

Thank you  If reading my random witterings can help anyone else who's going through the same thing then that would be an added bonusYou can't control everything in life....... your hair was put on your head to remind you of that

Thank you Fermi
Well, today I've told 2 more friends about it and while they were both shocked that things were that bad, they were both wonderfully supportive and offered any help they could.
The forms arrived in the post from the Courts this morning (how quick?!) and I did have a little flick through them but then felt a little over-whelmed so popped them back in the envelopeTo be fair, I am working this evening and tomorrow, but I'm off at the weekend, so have promised myself that I will at least get them out and have a good read of them all the way through

Hi Scarlett
Wow are you organised!! i'm so impressed.
The forms are horrendous, especially if you have property/assets, but they aren't difficult, more time consuming. Even without any assets i worked out it took me approx 9 hours to complete, but my paperwork was a terrible mess which didn't help in finding out all the info i needed.
Thats great news about the agent, and very helpful to know.
Keep up the good work! The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter0 -
Hi Scarlett,
Just wanted to offer my ongoing support to you, you've been very helpful and supportive to me when I first came to the boards so I'll be here with you every step of the way.

Aww, thanks everyone
I am trying really hard to keep positive (I do have my 'moments', but don't we all?) and it's the support I receive here that's helping me to achieve that :T
