Problem with father!!!!

not a major problem but a intresting one and would like some advice to advise him.

My father has been a widower for just under a year and for the last few months has been talking regualy to a mature lady in russia. She unexpectedly to us arrived in the uk a week ago with a 4 week visa sponsered by some friends already in the uk.

Shes arrived with no money apparently lost it on the train in russia and latched on to him . Hes now acting like a fifteen year old with raging hormoans.:D

He feels they get on really well and now considering keeping her here:confused: . We have met her and she seems very nice.

We are happy hes happy but think hes mad rushing into things.Has anyone else been in this situation or dealt with a situation like this. what should we look out for etc ect Any advice would be much appricated:D

  • I'm afraid I have no advice for you, but the phrase "there could be trouble ahead" springs to mind.

    Best of luck.

I would personally not do too much at the moment, although your suspicions are understandable. He is an adult and you would probably not get a good response by airing your fears so early in their `relationship`. However, I would watch as closely as you can and if you get the right opportunity,i think you should make it clear as politely as you can to the lady, that your father has family that care and watch over him. If you feel you cannot keep quiet then i think it would be appropriate to sit your Father down and lovingly warn him. He may not like you `interfering` but just tell him you love him and are only looking out for him. Good luck.

  • Of course the more you say don't do it to him the more he will want to do it. Do you remember ever doing something your parents didn't want you to do and because they didn't want you to do it it made you want to do it even more? Well.....let him get on with it and then he will find out the hard way. Sounds cruel but you can't stop someone doing something when they are determined to do it. Just make sure that he gets some pre nuptial agreement (if it gets that far!)

    Oh dear.

I googled "russian internet scam" and got rather a lot of results. The following two are not quite the same as you are saying but should serve as a warning of sorts. You may find by doing the same google that you get even more information about the situation your father is in.

If she only has a 4 week visa, realistically how easy is it going to be for her to get an extension? I shouldn't think a 4 week old relationship is going to impress immigration that easily. Maybe she'll be gone sooner than you think, or am I being naive?
