I've always found it easier to tape a flexible stencil to a glass jar and paint over that, rather than try and paint free-hand. You can probably download free outlines of Christmassy things like bells, holly leaves and snowflakes from the web - just print them out onto card, use a craft knife to cut them out, then tape onto the jar using masking / low-tack tape. You can then apply glass paints with a brush (a stippling motion is best with stencils) or sponge-paint them.0

I picked up a small-ish organiser box in Woolies today - it's 17cmx22cm, a 10 compartment organiser with removable dividers, so you can alter the shapes to fit your sweets! It's part of their WorthIt! range and was £1!
Rather blew it by spending £6 on pic n mix to fill it  but I needed to sort it out asap as it's a present for a friend going back to work from maternity leave, and she's due back soon. The size is great - it'll fit in a desk drawer - naughty!0 -

Beat me to it there - found these on saturday and I've just dug out the thread to post it!! It is a very handy size. The woolies in Durham had yellow and black ones so there may be more colours available. It was in the DIY section in my woolies.0 -
This is one of the retro sweet hampers I am making. I still have quite a bit to buy for it though!0

Only read the first page, so sorry if someone has said already...
Me Muvva is a diabetic, & a lot of the sugar free sweets are so tiny they look pathetic in the cellophane wrappers, but this idea would tart them up a treat!
Suspect she will moan about what to do with the box afterwards, but I daresay it will come back my way eventually.
Ooooohh.......could you do one for doggie or puss treats, instead of those god awful stockings?
And......make your own treats to go inside! Very MSE!Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

Just been thinking...I get dangerous when I'm up early lol!
What about raiding the cheapie jewellry sections for earrings, rings, chains etc, for a teenage daughter, or some of those 'princess' dressing up thingies that come on cardboard, like in a 99p shop, for the tiddlies? Or mix in with the sweets so the 'fattie police' can't winge!!!!
Not sure what to do with boys tho......unless you can get hold of some of those little tester sized aftershaves that come free in magazines? Can the public buy them do you think?
MALES LOVE PRACTICAL JOKES!!!!!! Get some of those silly blue sweeties, itching powder, nail in a finger type things....yey!!!!That's me sorted!
Not looked for boxes yet, but what about B&Q or Wilkes or something? Just an idea...Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

This is a fantastic thread, love all the photo's, will be making them up for all the kids in my family, bulk buying will work out cheaper, I cannot wait to start, will be buying all my bits on friday, and once I'm done, I'll be adding my photo!!
If anyone has any other good idea's please share:T
If anyone is a bit artsyfide, avery.com do samples and they do stickers for files (free sample) http://www.avery.co.uk/uk1/labelsolutions/free_sample.jsp
maybe you could print off a name label for the lids, avery have all the layouts on there website, add some background colour, photo of a footballer or a princess, add there name a bob's your uncle, you've just jazzed up your lid, bucket etc!!0 -
What a fab idea, not just for kids, but for those sweet toothed adults too! Some corner shops still sell sweets from jars, so I'm off to my local to start the collection!!

Luckily I've got a really good colour laser printer at work, so I spent yesterday googling up lovely colourful pictures of retro sweets and printing them all off. Today's lunch hour will be spent sticking them onto a piece of A4 card to make a collage to cover the lid of my Woolies plastic organiser box!0
