Bloody stupid router!!!!

Hi techno gods,

I have finally got my router off DHL and I'm trying to set it up on the lappy, I bought this and when I set it all up, as instructed, the light isn't coming on for the ethernet port, I have tried it in all 4 sockets on the box and still no joy. Do I need any additional hardware for the lappy :confused: its wireless ready

I am running win XP and have an adsl line, please help before I am forced to injure the bleedin thing :D

    i presume you mean you're hard wiring it?

    it could well be faulty or have a bent pin. have a close look at the cable.

    I'm confused now, the link is for a wireless laptop adapter, you are talking about a router

    you need a wireless router modem as well ?? what make is that ??

    hard wired is just another term for connecting via ehternet or usb

    Sorry, I have amended the link, I put in the wrong url.

    I want to set it up wirlessly but in the instructions it says I need to connect the ethernet cable to set it up.

    I have to do the school run now but will be back in an hour.

    i take it the Lan connection on the laptop is enabled ??

    How do I check that? I have never used wireless so I just left the LAN settings alone.

    I have tried it with the PC and the light comes on so its not a fault with the router.


    Sorry if I sound dence but like I said I have never used wireless and never understood what I read about them.

    EDIT- I went to connections and right clicked on the LAN connection and it gives me the option to disable so I can only assume it is enabled :confused:

    can't you just set up the router with the Pc seeing it connects ok ????

    does'nt need to be the laptop connected for the set up

    once running just install the card in the laptop and do the wireless connection bit, or is it that you want to connect the laptop by cable ??

    do you want to connect the laptop by cable or wireless ??

    sorry to be a pain asking all these questions...you already have wireless on the laptop ??
