Hi all,
I feel like a total fraud posting on here as there is very little OS that goes on around here any more - I don't have a freezer so can't batch cook, the flat is so small that it pretty much cleans itself, and I can't knit!! But I just wanted to pop on and say a big thankyou to everyone who posted bits of advice as to how to "handle" OH after his dads transplant last week. It turned out I didn't need to do anything as once OH had got back into the country and visited his dad, he called me straight away and asked me to go over and cuddle him! It took 4 days for the kidney to start working, and then when it did kick in on Saturday it didn't have 100% function but everyone was very positive, unfortunately on Monday it was discovered that he's heamoragging (sp?) somewhere and 2 days of scans can't figure out where. It's all so worrying and is like 2 steps forward, 4 steps back!
On Saturday night OH and I went to the ice hockey - we along with his dad are season ticket holders - and they were doing a big feature about Organ Donation on the concourse and in the program - entirely coincidental! But we had a word with the club GM who we know as OH has done some work for them before, and he got us into the dressing room to get the program signed by all of the (semi-nude!!!) players!! Gave it to FIL on monday and he was so touched!
Anyway, enough of my ramble.
HUGE HUGS to smokey and family - you are constantly in my thoughts.
:grouphug: to anyone else who needs one
CrazyChick - we are always looking for extra staff at my place but we're on Kelham Island so probably a bit too far for you? The offer is there if you want it though (I'm in charge of recruitment) xxx

r.mac - do you have a good recipe for that lemon drizzle cake? My boss is desperate for me to bring some home baking into the office, and lemon drizzle cake is what he keeps going on about, despite the fact that I've never made it before in my life
Am at w**k today, looking forward to the long weekend, though Easter weekend is never particularly relaxing for me as it is always a bit of a church choir marathon. Sometimes I have five services to sing between Thursday evening and Sunday, though this year it is only four (no evening service on Saturday). I'm also going to a performance of Bach's St Matthew Passion on Friday evening.
I should get paid tomorrow (v.early due to the bank holidays) and not a moment too soon, I have spent so much this month! Somehow I have managed to spend double what I normally do on household items - budget is supposedly £20 a month for everything like toiletries, sanitary stuff, loo roll, cleaning tools and products, washing powder, light bulbs, batteries and odds and ends of "household maintenance", and this month I have spent over £35 and still need a couple of things
My basic costs are going up by around £16 next month due to council tax (£4) and rent on my shared ownership flat (£12) and although in theory I shouldn't even notice because of the drop in income tax, in practice I am having a slightly complicated situation with my tax code at the moment and I am not sure I will be any better off in the short term. I think the shortfall will have to come out of my clothes budget in the first instance, but with any luck it should all get sorted out in July when I get a "cost of living" payrise. I am going to try and budget it better this year so it accounts ahead of time for the stuff which always goes up in April... IYSWIM.
Am trying to save up to have a decent 30th birthday bash, too...
Don't need to buy any food for about a month, though - there's so much in the freezer!
Rzl xx
Edited to say: Nelski, give my love to the duck, I'm glad her DD's op seems to have gone OK.Operation Get in Shape

Hiya Rzl
It's recipe from an old asda magazine and have made it millions of times and its works beautifullyAm I able to post the recipe re: copyright. If not I'll give you the gist of it
r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
Hi r.mac,
Not sure of the best way to get around the copyright issue. If somebody asks me for a copyrighted recipe, I either write it out in my own words while making it very clear where the original idea came from, or I just PM it to the person...

right - this recipe is in my own words and comes from an ASDA instore magazine.
Lemon Drizzle Cake
175g butter
275g caster sugar
finely grated zest 2 unwaxed lemons
3 eggs
225g self-raising flour
100ml lemon juice
preheat oven to 180degrees.
line and grease a 2lb loaf tin.
beat zest, 175g caster sugar and butter together.
add in eggs.
fold in flour and then put in tin.
bake for approx 45mins
When you put cake in oven put rest of sugar into a small bowl with the lemon juice and leave in a warm place. Stir occassionally. I also like to taste the mixture at this point;)
when cake has cooled, pierce with a skewer all over and then drizzle the lemon topping on top of the cake so it soaks into the sponge and forms an 'icing crust'.
Apparently this serves 12 - I would suggest 8 was a more likely!!!!:rotfl:r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0
