Could you be a 'Hillbilly Housewife'

Options
While searching for a Christian fundamentalist housewife's site that was on one of the threads I found this little gem. Maggie, the hillbilly housewife, is not as preachy as the other one and has some funny observations to make. She also lives on a budget, has been in debt and finds it difficult to always make ends meet.

Click on 'other goodies', boy, does this woman moneysave.

It also gives a very different picture of how awful it is to be hard up in the USA.

Anyway, here's the thing - could you by a hillbilly housewife. I may well give it a try and will get my sewing machine out later to run up a couple of 50's style aprons. I only have the yorkie to get into line and I don't know how he'll take to it, but I'm going to give it a go.

Fortunately, since my op I don't need to have the pattern for home made sanitary towels!

Here's the link

Will somebody please pass the biscuits?

I love the site, despite it being very america, and look at it fairly regularly - but I doubt very much if I could completely emulate everything she says.

I have tried some of the recipes and they have all gone down well with my kids.

I have the HBH site bookmarked as a way of cheering myself up! As you said, it must be so hard to be broke in the USA but maybe the country location helps.

I am very impressed by her menu but can't persuade OM to try re-fried beans.

Good luck with your experiment - I think I will make an apron this afternoon, instead of the morsbag I've got cut out!
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

I like this site too. I think it was Halloweenqueen who alerted me to it a while back. I've actually been looking at apron patterns this morning and am all fired up with enthusiasm to make myself some.
  • If you find the fundamentalist's website again, could you post the link? I followed a link from MSE once in the past and found it very entertaining, and I'd like to have another look, but can't find the link now...

There are loads of American Christian fundamentalist sites out there. They hold a strange fascination for me -I'm both attracted to and repelled by them. Weird.

Gosh! I'm pretty impressed! Though I have to say (and I'm not a small bloke) that I probably wouldn't be able to move after that amount and type of food. It feels (and since it's there to fill people up) like massive amounts of stodge!

I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...

I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!
