I bought some of this at the weekend at Costco and thought it was great but pricey.
Does anyone out there have a recipe?

and
http://www.waitrose.com/food_drink/recipes/recipesearch/recipe/0601ws04-r04.asp
The first one is for a cinnamon and hazelnut granola and the second is for a cherry, almond and coconut granola.
I'd love to see some other recipes though!0 -

Put in a large baking tin/dish
combine

Just adding to Thriftlady's post above, as I think it's the same recipe I use from the "More with Less" cookery book.
If you put 7 cups dried ingredients (to include 2-3 cups oats) and 2 cups liquid. You can use a wide variety of store cupboard staples, so can vary depending on what you have, and what you like. I usually add powdered milk, linseeds, oatbran, wheatgerm (during a tight month, sometimes wholemeal flour). Adding cinnamon or mixed spice makes it really delicious!
For the liquid, again there's a huge variety, I prefer to use brown sugar in a little water, heat it on the hob til it's all dissolved then mix it in.
Add fruit bits after cooking, I mostly use raisins, once use baked bits of apple, which was very nice, but took too long to make.
Another tip is to keep your eye on it when it's cooking, I find if I cook the cereal too long it gets very hard, and doesn't soften with milk. It's at its best when it's just turned golden brown IMHO!
Sorry to have rambled on so long, I'm a huge HM cereal fan! I just love it, and have made quantities the same as commercial cereal, and costed it at 20p!!"Then, when every last cent
Of their money was spent,
The Fix-it-Up Chappie packed up
And he went."

Likewise, we tried this in the absence of Costco flapjack. I agree, it was delicious, but just a little sweet for my liking.
Here is a recipe I have used in the past - culled from a paper many years ago. I have bought some wheatgerm today to have another go.
Makes about 4lb
1 1/2 lbs rolled oats
8 oz wheatgerm
8 oz sunflower seeds
8 oz coarsely chopped nuts (hazels, almonds, cahsews or a mixture)
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 pt real maple syrup or clear honey
1/4 pt Sunflower oil
1/4 pt apple or orange juice
1 lb Mixed dried fruit (raisins, currants, apricots, dates, figs, etc - chopped as needed.
1 vanilla pod (optional)
Combine dry ingredients (except fruit) in a large bowl. Combine the syrup (or honey) with the oil and fruit juice and mix. Pour over the cereal and mix well.
Spread the mixture on shallow baking trays and bake in a preheated oven (!80 deg C) for 30 to 40 minutes until crisp and golden, turning ffrom time to time to colour evenly.
Allow to cool, mix in the dried fruit. Add the vanilla pod (if using) and store in an airtight container. Serve with cold milk or yoghurt (get the Easiyos going!).
By mistake, I added the fruit once *before* baking, which made it rather chewy - not unlike the Costco version.
Hope that helps someone.

I've been looking through the More-with-Less cookbok for granola recipes, and most of them include whole-wheat flour. Is this absolutely necessary, or can plain white flour be used instead (I know it wouldn't be as healthy, but would it impair the taste?)We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0

I use the 'Basic dry cereal formula' from More With Less which can include flour, but if you look at my earlier post you'll see I don't include it.My version comes out quite 'loose' that is,not in big chunks.I've also made the 'Crunchy granola' on page 92 which doesn't have flour in.I am sure it doesn't make much difference if you use white flour instead of wholemeal.HTH:)0
