Ryanair are rumoured to be in negotiations with Glasgow Airport re the possibility of transferring services from Prestwick to Glasgow, this could put the nail in the coffin for both Globespan and Prestwick Airport:embarasse:embarasse0

It seems to be their CC processor "E-Clear" not passing on payments on time, thus creating a temporary cashflow problem."E-Clear" seem to be the ones in financial trouble.
The fact they secured private funding to see them over this time, shows they are basically a solid company.0 -
When XL went under last year the very same journalist published an article stating Globespan would be next and it would be over last winter. They are still here. This is a non story and very poor journalism. Sixth word in the article is believed. The article then continues to use words such as thought and possible.
Also states they provide handling for flybe at Glasgow and Edinburgh which is incorrect. Harps on about XL which is old, and irrelevant news. Who knows what the final paragraph is on about and even less how it is relevant.
The article mentions the MOD contracts that Globespan fly. These contracts are very lucrative (the taxpayer foot the bill after all, we can't expect a good deal!), and will be paid in cash and on time. Globespan have also reduced their capacity in other areas and are leasing aircraft out over the quiet winter period to keep cash rolling in rather than parking them. All airlines are finding it hard but Globespan seem to be in one of the better places to be honest.
Lazy, cr*p journalism from someone who obviously has an axe to grind.0 -
Thanks for the above two informative posts folks.
People will have possibly read the ill informed article and have panicked about whether their holiday will go ahead.
The reality is likely to be a far sight different to what the journalist in question has written.0 -
Globespan have been in business for over 20 years, they are the company to try first if you're looking for flights out of Scotland at reasonable prices.
I think they will have a tough time during the recession, but will still be around at the end of it.
this is just the annual story about Globespan - happens every winter.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
Balance 19th April '07 = minus £27,640
Balance 1st November '09 = mortgage paid off with £1903 left over. Title deeds are now ours.0 -

On the Alicante + Malaga routes from Edinburgh, Globespan ARE already competing with Ryanair. Their hold baggage is cheaper @ £9.99 ew compared to Ryanairs £15ew. Their card handling fees are lower (Electron Free) all others 2.99% so based on average £150 total fare - £4.50 compared to Ryanairs (Electron free) £5 per flight ie £10 rtn.
Big plus- Globespan seats are allocated, so none of the scramble + stress for families/groups to sit together.Arrive at check in early enough-you sit together.
Obviously no one competes with the Ryanair penny flights etc, but these are loss leaders + the majority of passengers arent paying this.0 -

We always prefer flyglobespan to other carriers as 'the flight' usually seems 'better' , however one measures that?
Close comparison flyglobespan Vs RyanAir shows only a few £ difference; the comfort being worth any difference.
BUT! Will flyglobespan still be flying next year? They say they will. They would say that.
So, can we book in confidence? There'd better be some very, very reassuring words, very soon.0 -
I have been waiting for them to go bust for the past 2/3 years however they just keep fighting and then got the MOD contract.
Im not sure about now though, I have a friend how works for them and wants out and is worrying about there future so now its got my thinking maybe next year they will? who knows....New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.
No place in the world that can compare ♥ 2nd October 2010 ♥0 -
xl.com also had the very lucrative MOD contract that globespan now have, didn't stop them going under !0
