Has anyone got any ideas on how to get rid of fleas on the cat, on the dog and yes in the house, preferably without using any of those chemicals. Dog and cat have both got flea collars, we've used sprays and powders too but still we have them!!!!!

Use a product called Advantix. You may not have that brand but it's a liquid that you put on the back of their neck once a month. They are quite small but it's the only product I have found to get rid of fleas.
If they are in the grass out in the yard sprinkle some lime on the ground. That should kill them or they will re-infest the animals if you don't get rid of them outside. You will need to keep vacuming the carpets as well if you have carried them inside as well.
Summer is a killer for fleas over here. I could write a book about them.Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
bowl of boiling water in middle of floors apparently works for my neighbour, fleas attracted to heat jump in and drown or boil. not tried it myself, I use frontline on my cat stops fleas from breeding as well as killing them..0

I had a major infestation a few years ago
Used contact sprays but kept returning - then found they were outside in the yard - sprayed that also and the problem went after that0 -
Thanks have tried the liquid on the back of the neck, but will try lime in the garden.0

Hi, thanks for that, have tried a candle in a bowl of water at night on the floors, which has worked, but will try the boiling water too.0

Advantix (NOT on the cats) or Frontline, and Staykil or Acclaim for the house.
Sorry, but if you want rid of fleas you're going to need some chemicals. I can list a million things which are perfectly natural and very effective at repelling the little blighters, but once you're infested you need something to actually kill them. Oh, and your carpets will be full of their eggs so you'll think you've cleared them out and then they'll pop up again. And when your heating comes on again when it gets to winter, they'll come out of the carpets and reinfest your pets.
My advice is to have a chat with your vet. They deal with flea infestation and control on a daily basis and will be able to advise you on getting rid of the little brutes. But I promise you, the only quick and sure way to get rid of them is just to hit them with the chemicals. Sorry.0 -
Frontline is the only thing we've found to work on our cats. The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

We got some Frontline from the vet yesterday, but it was pretty expensive. I see that you can now buy it online without prescription - can anybody recommend somewhere that sells it at a good price?

Does anyone know why frontline spray needs a prescription but the spot-on type doesn't? I can't use the spot-on on my cat as it irritates her skin and causes blisters but she's ok with the spray.0
