I read in the sunday press about how cupcakes are taking off. I made a fairy cake recipe today and used muffin cases. I used 2 eggs, 4 oz sr flour, 4 oz caster sugar, 4 oz soft marg and 1 tsp baking powder. I made 8 (so they were big), instead of 18, and baked in the muffin cases at 200 for 20 mins. Such an easy recipe and mixed all in one
I topped with water icing (icing sugar and a little water) and sprinkled with lots of hundreds and thousands. I can`t have spent more than £1.50 for 8 big big cakes and I used organic eggs and flour and the marg was flora active, which is probably dearer than butter
some people have more money than sense

I know these are ridiculously expensive, but for a wedding I think they'd be amazing! Far cheaper than a wedding cake and the designs are absolutely beautiful.0

they are far prettier than anything i can do though!!!!
my sister costed cupcakes from that website a while ago for her wedding and it was much cheaper than a cake, and more fun

I'd adore them for my wedding! Far less waste than a typical cake, i'd imagine, and you could easily cater for everyone (and the smaller than average cupcakes are cute and healthier!) They all look so perfectly decorated!

OMG !!!!
Even if I won the lottery I do not think I would buy 12 for £20 !!!
Though I now realise where I went wrong on the PTA cake stall the other week !!!! PMPL !!!

My first thoughts were '£20    - what the heck for?'
Having seen the website it's obvious that the cupcakes are a little more than 'just a cupcake' - and hopefully they will all be finished to the highest standard. Delightful alternative to the traditional rock solid royal icing with marzipan
.
Do we all really enjoy wedding cake or do we just love admiring the workmanship that goes into its presentation?0 -
There's a shop in St Pancras that sells beautiful large cupcakes at about £5 each :eek:Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

I really like fruit cake, but as someone that makes wedding cakes fairly frequently - I always want to cry when they get cut.... (and inside my head is always screaming - that took me !?!??!? months and now you're hacking it it to bits
) :staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
I have actually ordered these from the lovely people at Crumbs and Doilies and they were worth every penny! They were for a Mother's Day family lunch and I have never tasted anything like them before.... I can make great cakes but somehow not quite like this. If you think about the cost of buying cake in a cafe the £1.70 approx that you pay here doesn't seem so unreasonable!
By the way also consider myself to have more sense than money - unfortunately;)0 -
I am making 100 cupcakes for a friend as a wedding pressie - I now feel pretty generous

Aaah they look lovely!!
I was going to have this kind of arrangement for my wedding cake...We didn't bother with a cake in the end, as we got married abroad and then just went out for a meal to celebrate with family when we got home.
I would love to be able to make nice fairy cakes, mine never turn out very nice. They always go a funny shape, burnt on outside not cooked in middle, too dry, no flavour, the list goes on..... I did see a fairy cake cook book once this thread has just tempted me to go and buy it!!!!!!!!
