Selling Your Stuff on Amazon Part 11 - Advice for newbies in first two posts

Am giving a reasonable imitation of "Nearly Headless Nick" at the moment and am definitely wobbly round the edges - 2 x 4/5 feedbacks with excellent comments didn't help much either! I dunno -you disappear for two days ( well, 3) and the whole damn thing goes into meltdown ...
xx
My sales have gone absolutely dead, and I'm managing to feel so philosophical that I found this feedback funny:
"Service was xtra prima good, as was the condition of the book."
4/5

I've just had one of my lowest ever payouts since going pro on Amazon, such a shame this close to Christmas. However I have also been buying huge amounts of books as Christmas presents and it seems that if you watch for special offers on Waterstones online you can often pick up a brand new book including postage for far less than a second hand copy on Amazon, so I am feeling a bit doomed.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Well I had a weird one. Someone bought a book last night - used very good etc etc and I got an email as well from her saying she wanted 20 just like it at my price for a school order .... I had to write and say I only had the one used book in that condition and did she still want it??!!
Makes you wonder ...0 -

Fairly common in my experience actually, though usually they will ask before purchasing. Teachers, Reading Groups etc. Most copies I ever got asked for was 40, unfortunately I didn't have that many!
Also, the other thing to consider is that these types of buyers will often expect to pay the advertised price for the book, and only pay the postage at cost, or even a discount, expecting you to be making a profit purely on the book!Do You Twitter?

This has been a great thread first off and I should just like to thank everyone who's contributed. its encouraged me to have a little go and get rid of some of my books and its going well in that the prices are much better than you would get on ebay. My question is I "accidentally" sold something to America (tired listing and must have ticked the wrong box) Its worked out fine on the postage - Just phew:rolleyes: But I'm not sure what value I can legally send to USA or what I put on the customs form. why i usually steer clear but its my own fault so....any help appreciated0

Just write "Printed Papers" in the top left hand corner of package, ask to send it at Printed Papers rate at the PO, and job done! Books do not need to have a customs form! (well for vietnam, and a couple of othercountries they are required but very few in reality) Some post office counter staff will insist on a CN22, but they really should pay attention as they are not a requirement, RM only 'advise' they should be used.
I send hundreds a year outside of europe, never used a CN22, only had 2 go missing in over 2 years of selling.Do You Twitter?

Thank you that is really good to know for next time . however this item is an ...audio book! so presumabley I will have to do a customs form.
incidentally while we are on the topic do you alway put a despatch note in when book is going abroad?
thanks for the heads up about printed papers though the customs worry has stopped me ticking USA when for reasonably weighted book it could be a good thing!!
Thanks again

Hi Guys
Well as some of you will remember I had a total disaster back in the summer when all 1800 of my books expired (I stopped my pro merchant) and as I didn't get them all back on within 2 weeks they then completely disappeared from Amazon's memory. I have finally got them back on. Not 1800 as I had a good sort out and freecycled about 12 boxes so I now have 1350 good sound books and about aother 200 still to do. The best bit is that in the last 6 days I have sold 19 books with a decent profit.
Hope the selling fairy come to those who need her.
