    :rotfl:No they ain't :D:D:D:D

The Aldee supa 6 ain't no help for you either - a teeny pack of grapes for 19p.........:( Hope fruit stocks can be found in and around Tillyshire - for not too much pence :D

:j I have fitted back into my pre-pregnancy walking trousers for the first time :j I can donate the pair that I had to wear from about 30 weeks - with homespun expansion panelling:eek: - to charitee :j the pairs that did up to 30 weeks and up until now from birth are ready for the rag bag quite frankly #wornoutliketheirwearer :rotfl:

I have just paid my credit card by phone. I know I am a luddite, but I used to prefer to go into the bank and pay it - to preserve our high street branch as much as anything. Well, the bank makes it so difficult to actually get to the counter these days that I'm fed up with them. The phone is relatively straighforward, although I'm not sure that I haven't messed up the one bit, and given the house number down the road........ as the machine didn't appear to recognise my postcode input :o Hopefully they can apply logic and the bill gets paid. At least if it is wrong, it is only a small balance.

Right, better do some more. Enjoying baby cuddles at the moment, as BG is on my lap. :D

Oh dear to your automated fiasco Greying! I too hope your bill is paid. My bank has always only ever had one branch per city so I'm quite used to doing everything on the internet/phone - fortunately you can also pay cheques in via the post office which I am occasionally very grateful for!

I've been gardening yesterday and today, and found yet MORE potatoes that just grew in my garden all by themselves :D I've had a good few platefuls now :rotfl: I think it's because I make my own compost, including little eye things I've cut off the potatoes (and the occasional mouldy one :o ) and then they go into the compost, and then I sprinkle it liberally round the garden, and then, surprise! Potatoes everywhere :rotfl: I think I've got the last of them now, out of the tubs at least!

Thought of you last night - I was Most Gloomy when I went to bed so I sat up for a while and made a list of things to be grateful for :) Made me feel a bit better!

I don't know if I need it to work forever, but just to help me get back on a even keel, whilst every day with Baby Greying seems to be a 'new' day - and don't nobodyz tells me that it is like that until they are 18!!!!!!! :rotfl::rotfl:

OK but...DS1 turns 18 next month and I fear/hope the changes, worry, joy, panic, pride, opportunities, fear, thrill and delights he brings into our lives are not over yet by a long chalk.

Sri lankan dishes looked lovely - I use a Paul Merret recipe from his Using the Plot book that I can't find online but i did find his spice blend from his newer book https://www.thecaterer.com/articles/350055/extracts-from-spice-odyssey-by-paul-merrett
you need to scroll down past the meat curry recipe to find the curry powder blend. It looks very like the other one which I know came from a Sri Lankan friend.

Cheery I too pay in cash into my bank account via the PO (did it just now in fact :D). Very often you have to queue in either the bank or the PO, but you can't buy stamps in the bank ;)

I didn't know you were a tattie farmer Cheery! I would have called round to help you 'glean' and you could have showed me the shop that sells smoked tofu ;)

Bah to the 'glumps', but huzzah for being able to banish them with a few moments reflection on all that there is to be grateful for. Well done! :D:j

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Baby Greying is just going through 'new routine' experiments at the moment, in addition to just all the new things that babies seem to learn on a daily basis. Mumma & Papa Greying are being kept on their toes by this, so need some simplicity at present. But you're right, we need to get used to it and adapt and be flexible :D

I use Rick Stein's recipe for Sri Lankan curry powder, and like it so much, I always make a batch of it up and keep the extra in a jar. It has cloves in it, which Paul's version doesn't, but it's a nicely aromatic mix, isn't it? And thanks for linking to that recipe - I'm sure other readers will have use for a pork cheek recipe - seems verymuch muddy or Tilly's territory :D

How come, one minute it is 9am, then it is time for tea, then it is 9pm

I have been up the high street to pay in some money into my bank account...... at the PO :D And bought some stamps whilst I was about it :D We've the TV mag for next week and some frozen veg to top the freezer up :D I also took some library books back - I am beginning to wonder who actually comes up with the themes for some children's books - we had a couple of well-dodgy titles :( One possibly because it was translated...... but still :( Anyway, i've selected several more and they seem 'ok'. Will see what DH - reader out loud in charge - thinks :D

I'm pondering whether to make a phone call to chase something up. It is dragging and I'm getting frustrated. It was 3 or 4 weeks since I last rang, so hopefully I won't be seen as being a nag. I'm probably being too nice, the people who get stuff actioned just get on the phone everyday, don't they?

Right, best go and do a bit more or make a phone call, I suppose......

Get on that phone Greying! :D I'm a terror for putting off phone calls too :o I, for example, have put off ringing the garage today, but I'm only going to have to do it tomorrow. And yes, chasing daily is the way to go!

  • Good Morning :hello:

Baby Greying is helping me type this, so it could be a load of gobbeldegook (so, what's new Greying?), or it could be extremely short :rotfl:

New bedtime routines mean that the evenings now run away with us. It doesn't help that mumma was in bed by 9pm, either :o:rotfl:

I did, however, manage to put the meal on the table that i had planned to :j I have to say, whilst I am no officionado of paneer, I could see no discernable difference in the paneer that had been frozen and defrosted, over using it fresh. I won't hesitate to buy extra, with the intention of freezing, if I see it on special or YS'd in the future. I know our dear friend Mouche would implore us to make our own, as it is so easy, and the product is better than the bought; but at 69p a block, the paneer I bought, will do.

    I made a new to me recipe, which is a keeper, as it is easy, uses 'stock' ingredients and the dish is nice and tasty to eat :D i made Kadai Paneer and served it with boiled rice. Picture here;

Today is a pootle day. I shall try to integrate some housework around 'enrichment' and 'fresh air'................................

I did make the phone call yesterday. I'm none the wiser. I'd best wait for written correspondance. Patience isn't my strong point, but these people are taking the persistently. So much for charters, founding principles and customer service commitment.

Right, I best go. Quit whilst I'm ahead.

  • Good Morning :hello:

Busy day today, so I'm just popping in to keep myself focused :D

Tea this evening is going to be a buddha bowl, based around some falafel (cold-dron foods) that I got for a good price in h3ron yonks ago and froze.

    Last night's tea was actually better than I had anticipated, simply because the recipe used up lots of things that I already had - didn't buy anything purposely for it, and it stood the 'delay' test which is probably envitable with young people in the household :D Inspired by the salad potatoes that I got YS'd in m&$ and knowing that i had green beans in the freezer, I made Pistou from Rosey Ell1ot's Bean Book. I can't link to her actual recipe, but Pistou recipes are 10 a penny on t'web. I improvised slightly - my haricot beans were actually mrL baked beans with their tommy sauce washed off. My carrots were from a bag of frozen 'broccoli mix' and my 'pistou' was in fact nothing of the kind, as I had nuts, but no parmesan/grand padano, so I made it with nuts but not cheese (worked just as well - swirled into the soup and flavoured it and tasted fine :D) The basil was from a YS'd pot that has been growing marvellously on my windowsill, despite absolute neglect :o The pasta I had in stock - bought it from the food co-op we belong to to bolster my order. It's wholewheat and happens to be organic - but is also more than I would normally pay for pasta, even at wholesale prices. Picture here;

    006_zpslkzp0sfe.jpg

I would definitely make this again - any combination of vegetables is actually acceptable. It was definitely the right soup dish for a balmy late summer's evening - serendipity :D

Right, mustache. I am dressed, have washed me, my hair and managed to put a comb through it. Baby Greying next........ :D

Thanks for popping by and reading. Much appreciated.

  • Well, one bit of our big day out and about completed.

We got to visit a local town in Greyingshire. Always nice to visit somewhere different and see how their charity shops measure up ;) I was lucky in that the two that I visited had huuuuuggggggeeee children's sections. Whilst I didn't buy anything today, it was nice to know that there was, potentially, so much choice available. Clearly, in GreyingTown there are no children, so the charitee shops need not stock clothes/toys. Or alternatively, charge stupidly astronomical prices to put people off buying from them, and head orf to the local supermercado instead..........

I went in the reasonably priced fruit and veg shop and saw canteloupe melons for 99p and galia melons for £1.20. I know that the mrL offer isn't on now, but I couldn't help thinking that for 59p the melons were a steal. Although it has to be said, the galia melons must have been ripe, as they were emitting the most delicious aroma as you walked in through the door. I bought 4 peaches - hope they are delicious once they ripen.

I called in on the parentals on the way back home. They could only slot us in for a little while, as they were off gadding about with the local friends club......... Better bloomin social life than me :rotfl: But i did get gifted a dollop of garden veg - freshly picked, so I ain't complaining. And I have just eaten the most delicious cheese and tomato sandwich, where the tomato was still warm from being in the greenhouse :j Lawks, keep yer cav-ER and and yaks milk ice-cream flecked with gold..... a ripe, home grown, sun-warmed tommy-arto is where.it.is.at :D

Oh, any officianados of Spanish, Italian or Portugese food - could you please tell me what I would use paprika flakes for? Not chilli flakes, I got some of those today, and expect them to have some heat. Are the paprika flakes what would be called red pepper flakes - would I have seen them in a jar in a pizza joint? There were some in the healthfood store today, and I was tempted to buy them, but I didn't know what I would use them for. Instead I got some smoked paprika, chilli flakes, black beans and beluga lentils (still a product of Canada :j).

Right, I best get on, as I've got to be elsewhere just now.

They grow a lot of melons where we live. The ripe ones are picked and any damaged ones are also taken off the plant and left to rot. Believe me, the smell of ripe and then rotting melons gets you down after a few weeks . (It's not as bad as it sounds, it's just a super-sweet sickly smell).

Paprika flakes are different to ordinary paprika, more like cayenne pepper in strength I think, so they are hotter. Personally I like them scattered over food so you get little bits of heat rather than it being evenly mixed through the food. Yes, I think it's what you get in some pizza restaurants. I'm just off to make a tortilla and may add a few :)
