probably bung them all in a huge pot like a tombola

randomise the phone entrants and pick a winner and the same from text

then put all 3 in a hat and pick one :D

From an old Ofcom report

ITV operates an independently developed winner selector tool under licence from a third party.
This is known as 'Winner Selector’ and is a market leading solution used for managing many
competitions across the UK. The Winner Selector works by taking in all entries to a competition
from each entry route, and assigning a unique random number to every entry. This is done
independently of the original entry method, and assures that each entry has the same chance of
being selected, irrespective of the method of entry.
• Firstly, am new to this forum so apologies if this question has been asked and answered elsewhere!

As commented on in other posts, some ITV competitions no longer have a free web entry option, and are phone/text/post. A current example is this week's This Morning comp.

I thought that TV competitions were required to have a way of entering for free - a fact that is included in MSE's Comping Tips article "Companies must offer a free alternative, so many are available online free."

If this is the case, how are ITV getting away with not offering free entry as postal entries require you to spend money on postage?

ITV competitions which no longer allow online entries offer 'free' postal entry, though, of course, the stamp has to be paid for.

Free doesn't have to have zero cost just no cost beyond the basic charge for using the service
that communication is either:
o a letter sent by ordinary post, again whether first or second class post
o or some other method which is neither more expensive nor less convenient than entering by the paid route. Again this method must be charged at the ‘normal rate’; there can be no additional payment over what it would normally cost to use that method of communication

As an example, many people do not have ready access to the internet at home. Although, for many of those that do, use of it costs nothing in the sense that they pay a single amount for access and nothing for subsequent use, others cannot access it, at least quickly. A competition which offers an alternative ‘free’ entry route via the web may not offer substantial proportions of those who wish to enter a genuine choice or at the very least that alternative may not be as convenient for them as the paid route.

where any doubts exist as to whether the web entry arrangements in any particular case fully satisfy the Act’s requirements, other routes, for example by post that has been specifically sanctioned by Parliament, should be offered in addition

^^ This really gets me!! The bit that says "many people do not have ready access to the internet at home" fails to acknowledge that many more people do not have ready access to stamps, postcards or a postbox to post them in!!
Surely if they want to be fair to all then they should offer internet and postal?
But of course we all know that they are really just trying to discourage free entries and tempt people into using the premium text or phone services.

Have the ITV competitions been taken over by a different company? Only noticed the address to send postal entries is Derby which I'm sure is the same address Channel 5 use for theirs,

That's a Royal Mail thing.
