I know people can't promote their own comps here but...

Not sure who RP is, incidentally... :rotfl:
Apologies, meant RR - youNobody likes bullies. If I see people chucking their weight around in threads, telling people what they can and can't do, I report them (not the people that they are chucking their weight around with). I do believe that somebody here, that had a habit of doing that a lot, permanently had their posting rights removed fairly recently by the FMT.
If it's the same member, they seem to get away with alot more because they use over platforms to do said bullying! (FB, twitter etc)Thanks to all posters :A0 -
They wouldn't need to be subscribed to any blog emails if as in the case of the one I spotted earlier the parties concerned (in addition to their own separate blogs) also run a third one together and a Facebook group of the same name.0

But, going by the rules, they could argue that they received an email promoting the comp and NOT asked directly by the blogger (whether a co-blogger on a separate blog or not).
Surely that way they aren't breaking any rules? Yet you could say they are. Then you get into a long argument over who's rightThanks to all posters :A0 -
There is no need for an argument you just have to make a decision based on the balance of probabilities
For example why would anyone take the circuitous route you describe when they could simply ask direct?0 -
I don't want to discourage people from posting comps, which is always a danger if you start slagging people off. Having said that, I still agree with The 3rd Zebu and their point about trust. Better to just report them and not say anything about it, maybe? Thanks to all who post constructively.

For the very reasons we are talking about - the rules
Some lovely bloggers that I talk to wouldn't dare ask for their comps to be posted on here because they know the rules. But if I receive an email from a subscription (made on a previous comp) and it hasn't been posted, I'll post it up.
Yet, because I speak to the blogger via social media, some could say they asked me to post itThanks to all posters :A0 -

I have been doing just that for quite a few years now.
I tend to email the details rather than use the MSE report function so I have a record of the action.
Publicising the report serves no great function,as far as I can see.
Posting re the fact that you think self promotion is in play may also just create discord, which is a very easy thing to create on here.
If the report has credence MSE admin will do what is required.
Just my view of course.0 -
Wow!
This has been a huge eye opener to me.
So basically if you are a blogger you can self promote any blog any one of your friends run.
The MSE Rules Say:
'Advertising' includes touting for business; asking people to contact you; posting e-mail addresses which indicate a web address; linking to sites or blogs you or friends are involved with (whether you’re selling something or not); or linking to your eBay or other auction sales
So the bloggers who are friends can over ride this rule?
The longer I am a member of MSE the more the rules are rules for some & not for all.
If I ever decided to run a comp on my blog (which I have no intention of doing) I can email a blogger friend & hey presto on MSE it goes.

I don't get why people make such a big deal. At the end of the day it's more competitions to enter
Fair enough advertising your own comp is cheeky. but I don't see the issue with people posting blogger comps.
I follow a fair few blogs. So If I come across a comp I like the look of I would more than happily post it on here, I only "know" the blogs online , not in real life. Does this mean I should be penalised for "promoting" I think not?
If you have an issue, report it and let the team decide. we really don't need to make a big song and dance about it!0 -
