The £8000 is there for a major job we need doing to the house. It has been donated by parents. We have to use that for what it was given for otherwise they may ask for it back when they find out about the debts. I am from a very strict family that does not agree with credit cards or any debts. They weren't happy when we bought a house with a mortgage.

When you say donated, do you mean it's a gift that will not need to be repaid, or are you expected to pay it back. If it is a loan you can't afford it. Is the work absolutely necessary, can it be postponed? There is no point in £8,000 sitting there doing nothing, when is the work due to start?

As you are a couple you should be sorting this out together, it's no good the OH leaving it up to you, you are in this together.

Oh's job is a good job. Work has been slow in the past few months. Some months he has earned £5000+. I got used to having the money and spent it plus more.

The house and car has been altered to suit my disability as need a car to get around if OH isn't home.

I have tried to claim benefits but each time it has been rejected. I am unable to work because of my health.

It may be a good job, but its not a well paid job

Take off 300 PCM for travel - roughly - and he takes home 1200 a month

Not really what anyone would describe as a good wage.

You appear to be slightly resistant to accepting you are in trouble here :( and also you are again mentioning that you have been refused for benefits.

Why not register for job seekers and apply to work - is there nothing you can do.

not one part time job at all that you could manage?

Unfortunately, your income per month is £750 each - the minimum wage would pay more than that. and off that 750 you have to take the cost of each car off......

He used to earn 60k a year plus (take home) really.......

can he not move to another company in the same sector

I accept what you are saying but I know the circumstances of OH job. I would say that a job that pays £350 a day is a good job.

I came on here for help sorting MY debts not his job.

The work on the house starts in January to make it more liveable for me.

I can not do any job due to my health. I do not wish to discuss my health any further.

With regard to your questions Tiger Eyes. We do not go on holiday. We haven't for a few years. We never pay to park anywhere. We haven't bought clothes for a few years. Presents that have been given to relatives are gifts that I have bought in the sales over the last couple of years. I like finding a bargain

Ok, he earns £350 per day.

I agree that is a good job - so on a month when he earns 1500, he would work 4 days a month.

so 27 days he does not work.

Maybe he could get a second casual job, security stewarding at football matches, evening work in a pub?
  • Maybe worth a thought, I would guess by the nature of his work, he wont get sick pay.

What would happen if he broke his leg tommorrow?

    :(

You need to find 400 a month to make the minimum repayments.

    You cannot up your income.

he will up his income as and when he can with extra work

Apart from getting rid of one of the cars, which I dont imagine you will do, you have monthly debt repayments of £400 with a surplus of circa £100 from your SOA.

I would consider talking to stepchange about a DMP...

    Hi Struggling,

£350 per day is a very good job. Folk on here are not having a go at his job or questioning your health issues.

People are highlighting the issues in your SOA, where an average income of £1500pcm isn't enough to cover your existing expenses.

Your health issues are certainly not being questioned. Rather, if "The System" says your health issues don't entitle you to benefits, then play "The System" differently (eg: signing on for JSA and say you cannot do job X because of your health). This will change your financial situation quite dramatically.

People are just trying to point these issues out to you (sometimes quite bluntly, but they are well intentioned).
Don't relax! It's only your tension that's holding you together.
  • Glasgowsaver can we ease off OP a little please, I'm not sure if you're meaning too but your tone is coming across a little cruel.

Struggling, by the sounds of things you're already living relatively frugally. I can only reiterate the point I made earlier re do you need two cars?

You say above that you came on to sort your debt not your OH jobs, but the truth is you do need to find £400 a month just to make minimum payments.

If you can't cut costs further, or up your income, you may have no other choice but a DMP. If you carry on like you are you're going to get into more and more debt.

Please don't think I'm saying these things to be cruel. I'm not.

I appreciate where you are coming from, as my mother was unable to work for a long time due to ill health but was not able to claim any disability benefits.
