Hargreaves Lansdown - Terrible service

458 when I looked last. Not rubbing it in, calling share price movements is a mug's game. On another day you might have creamed the top of the market.
As Hermann wrote:...I've lost all faith in being able to click the button and execute the deal when I want to.
Instead it's become a just keep trying and take whatever it happens to be when it finally succeeds. Totally unacceptable.0 -
I empathise and I will never use them again either. There may well be a cost if involved in transferring. I would say check with them but, as you probably know, they are incommunicado. Like you though, I will be voting with my feet. I hope all the other people they've hacked off today will do the same.
It's not just the RM shares. Just imagine how much regular business they must have lost today due to their server problems. You could just about understand some slowness this morning but to have the whole site out of action all day is unbelievable.0 -

I agree, this morning I was very understanding and had some sympathy for them and said so, but for it to last all day isn't really on. I didn't really try and do much on their website today as I could see that I would end up being frustrated, but I did manage to leave a sell order for Monday at 454.
EDIT: I think If I was a director of HL I would be pushing for waving all fees on Monday for sell orders of RM shares in an effort to limit the bad PR. Although I think that damage has already been done now, and the situation from a PR perspective is probably not recoverable.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
I haven't commented on this thread before but like many of you I'm just incensed at what has happened today.
I chose Hargreaves Lansdown not because they were the cheapest but because I believed I'd get a better service but despite several attempts to sell my shares throughout the day I've just been wasting my time.
I've not received any emailed apologies, no offers of reduced dealing charges, nada, and except for their limp impersonal apology on their webpage I haven't received any communication from them at all and it's simply not acceptable. What a bunch of complete incompetents!
If they began the day with the intention of trashing their company's reputation then they've certainly succeeded spectacularly and unless there is some serious PR work from them over the weekend then this will be the first and last time I will ever have any dealings with them.0 -
Is there anyway at all to switch my ISA and all of my shares etc into another broker? I know I can just sell everything and buy elsewhere, but my ISA in particular I'm worried about... so fed up with HL after today, completely lost faith in them
I've spent an hour or so looking into this today as I am definitely switching to a reliable platform - today was the last straw as it was the 3rd time I've been unable to get online since I started using HL in April. Like others have mentioned I chose them and their higher fees/costs as I thought they'd provide a first class service so was prepared to pay for it. Today's debacle is quite worrying to put it mildly - they clearly don't have the computer server capacity to cope with an unusual day's trading - which could happen for all kinds of reasons and often because one is trying to ditch shares asap if a major news event breaks.
My findings so far on switching are not happy reading - HL charge £25 per holding to transfer. I have over 40 split between ISA, SIPP and Vantage accounts. Bestinvest seem to have a deal where they will pay up £500 of a transfer so I may look into that but I am cautious of jumping from the frying pan into the fire. I would be interested to know of good (reliable) platforms to move to. I am also considering Charles Stanley Direct, Fidelity and X-O.0 -
I just went onto HL thinking it would be working again and I could set some limit order for Monday but have just got almost to placing the deal and got the 'this webpage is unavailable' message. So this problem can't be just due to insufficient server power (surely not overloaded at 6.30pm on a Friday with markets closed) but strikes me that they have no adequate failsafe systems in place either. Even more worrying and making me wish to switch platforms asap.0

Interesting article, thanks for posting. It seems HL consulted the Oracle but even that didn't help!0 -

You've only gone and jinxed it!
Although X-O was fine during the day when the market was open its now down due to scheduled maintenance:secure.jarvisim.co.uk is temporarily unavailable - https://www.jarvisim.co.uk/x-o/secure/login.html
Unfortunately this scheduled maintenance has coincided with the Royal Mail Share Offer. In addition to reviewing your portfolio we appreciate that you may wish to confirm your Royal Mail share allocation so with this in mind we hope to have this essential work completed by 6pm on Saturday.
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience.
Nout to worry about though.Never let the perfume of the premium overpower the odour of the risk0 -
Finally managed to access my HL account and complete a couple of transactions. Would like to have to done these in normal banking hours as I'm away for the next 3 weeks with very limited internet access.
Not a happy HL customer0
