Hargreaves Lansdown Royal Mail Shares Problems
"I assure you that once the exceptional event that has been the Royal Mail Share Offer has concluded, our normal high quality of service will resume."
Am I alone in thinking this sounds like code for 'I expect our systems to crash again on Monday' ?
Not exactly very reassuring is it.0 -

Not very reassuring at all. Probably best to avoid Hargreaves Lansdown when there are 'exceptional' events.0 -

You are assuming that people were wanting to sell. I was looking to buy when the price was below £4.40 on Friday afternoon. That opportunity has probably gone now.0 -
I managed to log in on Friday at about 12:50 I had been trying since 12:30. I saw my holding was in place and left it be. The only trading I did was to use my un-invested funds which weren't used. Providential Finance was the company I bought into. That purchase took a long time to process but it did go through ok. I agree with the comments about a lack of ability of HL to be able to cope with sudden events. I am sure they will be assessing what went wrong and putting an action plan into effect ASAP.Solar PV cost £5760 (15/03/13)
FIT inc + Electricity saved £3746 (65% Paid back) Tax free

i had a period where i couldn't access my HL account, which was frustrating. but, i have to say, i have been consistently pleased with their CS over the past few years, very efficient, pleasant to deal with etc. i am surprised they hadn't ensured they could cope with the Royal Mail takeup, but i would assume that this has been very much an exception.0

Reference to "a number of other brokers" who allegedly also experienced problems isn't helpful
And please name those other brokers because no Internet forum seems to have heard of them yet.HL's McPhail said it was not the only broker to experience outages, claiming Royal Mail made up 26 per cent of all retail investment trades in the first few minutes of trading this morning, impacting The Share Centre and Barclays.
The Share Centre denied this, saying it had been trading without issue all day, and Barclays Wealth Investments appears to have been trading without interruption, though it was not available to comment at the time of publication. ®

Slightly off topic but I am converting a van to a campervan, replaced the twin passenger seat with a single one so you can walk through from the cab to the rear, and followed precisely the instructions on the DVLA website returning the registration document V5C to Swansea to have the seating capacity changed from 3 to 2. 3 weeks later I am still waiting for the return of the V5C which is now needed urgently for the van to go abroad. When I finally got through to DVLA Swansea they couldn't even tell me whether they had received it or not and suggested I wait another six weeks before contacting them again.
Kind of puts Hargreaves Landsown's couple of hours delay into perspective.“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -

Likewise. But only think I will get platitudes, like the press release from the CEO.0
