end of year tax return

I've posted this a number of times. There is one software provider I insist NO clients use - HMRCs. It's rubbish, there is no commercial pressure on them and when they snarl it up there is no evidence you even submitted anything.
payroo.com and others offer free payroll software for small businesses, HMRC compliant. Choosing HMRC software may appear to be the safe option but it really isn't, purely because you've dealing with the worst people in the market.Hideous Muddles from Right Charlies0 -
anyone that filed year end using basic tools & received a successful submission email, has your year end info now updated online?
i've just logged into PAYE online & ours still just shows a credit amount for the total tax & NI that we've paid, no year end figures showing at all. it states they only update on the 6th & the 20th of each month, it's the 22nd so it should have updated.
also, a rather vague message in the 'known issues' is now showing on HMRC -
"New issues (updated 20 April 2013)
Basic PAYE Tools
We’re aware that some employers have had a problem when submitting their PAYE returns using HMRC’s Basic PAYE Tools.
Employers who have encountered a problem should pay their employees as normal, as they will be able to submit their PAYE returns after they have paid their employees.
We apologise for any inconvenience.
We are investigating this issue and will provide updated information early next week."
what on earth does that mean??0 -
I am hoping that it means that you can pay staff wages in this tax year and still go back to do your P35 for last year. But what do I know?
I telephoned HMRC last week as it showed on the first page after log in - 'there is no account details available for you' - which was a tad worrying. However, lo and behold, they were all present and correct after a few clicks. The home page was incorrect and loads of telephone call ensued.
It's all going swimmingly well, apparently.0 -

confused? you soon will be...
1st month end today & this caused me to phone the helpline for guidance. probably just me being thick, but in case anyone else has problems...
the on screen guidance on tools is incorrect, you only need to complete an EPS if you have any recoverable amounts for the month (SSP/OSPP/CIS etc.). if you don't have any recoverable amounts, a zero completed entry is NOT required. if you try to sumbit an EPS full of zero's, you'll get an error message at first verification stage. i just deleted it & my FPS submissions went through ok then.
the user guide for RTI tools is correct, not the on screen info. the helpline told me the on screen wording will be changed in a new version to be released in October.0 -

That is correct. There are five submission types in all. In most cases, employers will have to perform only one per month - the FPS.
1) EAS - Employer Alignment Submission - the initial once only submission.
2) FPS - Full Payment Submission - sent every time a payment is made to an employee.
3) EPS - Employer Payment Summary - only submitted as you have described where a recovery issue occurs.
4) NVR - National Insurance Verification request.
The final one has not been publicised quite so much and hopefully you will never have to use it.
5) EYU - Earlier Year Update - when a amendment is required to an earlier years return. (I hope never to have the pleasure).0 -
thanks for the explanation, i presume no.2 should be FPS?
the on screen guidance on basic tools at the moment is really confusing (well, for me anyway!) as it says you MUST complete an EPS even if there are no recoverable amounts, it must show zero to confirm there's nothing to recover. which is 100% wrong!
think i understand it all a little better now, for us it will be weekly wages with FPS submitted (& 2 directors with a monthly payment each) & that should be it. even if we have any sickness these days, we rarely meet the criteria to claim anything back & it's highly unlikely there will ever be any other recoverable amounts. at month end confirm tax & NI totals on the employer payment record, that's it. no year end required, job done. hopefully!0 -
Have completed 4 lots of weekly and 1 lot of monthly paid runs, and the EPS (we do have CIS deductions), and it all seems to have gone through OK (touch wood). Just hope that I am doing it right and that it doesn't come back to bite me on the bum next April.0

I've just checked on line and our 2012 return hasn't updated either.0

same here, i'm waiting for the next update on 6th May, then will call HMRC if it's still not showing.
why do they create this extra stress for us & work for themselves? if their systems worked, they'd have nothing to do!
cynical, moi?!0 -
no year end figures (or RTI returns filed since) showing as of yesterday, but finally an update from HMRC to advise that they are aware of this!
New issues (updated 7 May 2013)
View account and current position
HMRC are aware that since the 6th April the 2012/13 End of Year Return information in View account has not been updated with either payments or returns received.
We are urgently working on resolving this issue and it is expected that the updated information will be available within the next few days. We will provide an update here when this issue is resolved.0
