    A few pages ago I mentioned the Cosmo and whether or not the resort fee was included in a lowcostusa.co.uk rate I had. They confirmed it was included for international guests providing you don't use the facilities that the resort fee covers. There were sceptics (including me), however I've now booked and received confirmation which includes the following;

    THE COSMOPOLITAN
    BASED ON 2 ADULTS
    3708 LAS VEGAS BOULEVARD
    LAS VEGAS, NEVADA 89109
NO MANDATORY RESORT FEE TO PAY, CHARGES FOR FACILITIES USED ONLY

all of which makes the rate I've got (inc tax) work out at £93 a night (7 nights), which I'm chuffed to bits with.

For context that's £653 for 7 nights total, with nearest best I could find £658 before tax (12%) and seemingly saying there would be a resort fee on top (which incidentally appears to have gone from $25 - $28 at the beginning of Feb).

It's a very long shot but I'm going to try the $20 trick, I don't really expect to get anything as it's 7 nights but I'll use a $50 to perhaps help my chances.
We stayed 3 nights (mon-thurs) in April last year and $20 saw us go from City room to one bedroom terrace with fountain view. Don't think I'll be matching that somehow!

Despite this confirmation from lowcostusa I still didn't believe it. Turns out I was right - I emailed the Cosmo direct and asked, the answer was "If you reserved after December 1, 2013 the resort fee is mandatory for all guests".

So fight with lowcostusa on my return after I've paid the resort fee that they have repeatedly told me is non mandatory.

See that was never really explained to me properly at the Total Rewards desk. I've only ever used my points for meals. I wasnt aware I could use the points to pay for a room. That was one of the reasons I asked about offers on the Total Rewards website. I guessed if I had points I would get special offers on room rates. I didn't realise I could use the points pay for the room at the end of my stay.

you can use points to pay for most stuff - toward your room, meals, show tickets, shops (not all, but those owned by CET)...there are 2 types of points though - reward credits which is what we're talking about and tier credits which determine what level you are in their players club.

we sometimes use all our reward credits before we leave as they expire after 6 months - usually to pay for meals we have charged to the room, internet access, etc...we still get comped rooms even if we have 0 reward credits as comps are based on your playthrough really, as far as I know...if you have reward credits to use you can use them - you've earned them...I haven't seen anything to suggest that using reward credits impacts future comps.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

    I'm back...

Been about 3 1/2 years since my last Vegas trip (only Vegas trip) and I'm planning on going back for my honeymoon in May next year!

Last time I stayed in the Excalibur then the MGM Grand, since its our honeymoon I plan on doing it big next year, definitely a suite of some kind. Going for 4 nights in Vegas, budget will be around £350, any recommendations?

Heard good things about Vdara, like the look of the new MGM rooms and theres also the Aria. Then there's the "classics" Venetian, Palazzo, Wynn, Encore, Bellagio and Caesars Palace but I think those ones will be out of price range, what you guys reckon?

While I was there last the City Centre resort was under construction, is it as impressive as it looked?

    Cheers
Also see a few users who were vital in my Vegas research last time so a big 'Hola' to them!

Has anyone used the website cheapoair? Are they trust worthy and safe to use? Prices seem to be a lot cheaper than other sites for flights. They have flights from Dublin to Vegas for £450.

I thought the same, great headline prices then when you look further that is without taxes and fees.

For info if it helps anyone. I have just returned from two stays in Vegas. First stay I booked the Quad using Total Rewards on Cyber Monday, what a rate $10 a night for delux room and no resort fee. Although I would say the room is not delux;).

I had read a lot of negative reports about the Quad but what the hell I was on my own and only needed a bed for a few nights. The place is basically a building site from the outside, inside not much better old and outdated but I was pleasently surprised the room was satisfactory for my purpose. I talked politely to the receptionist and she must have given me one of the better rooms, no $20 trick, I couldn't justify in that hotel. The hotel is in a great location opposite Ceasers Palace and Balagio. The place suits the likes of hen and stag parties, not the best for a couple wanting a romantic setting.

For my second trip I decided to ditch the Quad went upmarket and booked in at Southpoint using free credit I had on Hotels.com. No resort fee here either. It is a massive complex with everything you would need although a few miles from the strip. They do offer free airport shuttle and $8 a day shuttle to the strip. That was definately a place I would take my wife (amongst the Balagio, Venetion, Ceasers, Wynn etc) :)

I thoroughly enjoyed my two short stays in Vegas but definately want to return.

Thanks to those who have contributed to this thread it helped me a lot when planning the trip.

£350 for 4 nights is about $120 a night, if any of your nights are over the weekend that would rule out any suite on the strip IMO, guess it does depend on your definition of a suite though.
Even during the week all the classics you mention would prob be above that price.

CP does have some basic rooms though (roman tower) which most people wouldnt stay in but they are sometimes below $100 a night and you are almost gteed an upgrade at check in just by asking

The other 3 you mention would probably be doable

As for the city center being impressive, it is subjective but I think it is the biggest mistake in recent years and looks like a few high rise office bulidings (just my opinion)

Just posting in case this is of interest to anyone. This could be a good deal.

I noticed in the recent Tesco Clubcard booklet that they have a deal with a company called Apartments4you that has accomodation in Las Vegas. They had Carriage House plus the place beside it (Grand Desert I think it's called - it looks nice!!). It's for full weeks only, with specific start dates, and the weeks cost from about £350 upwards. So for example one I was looking at was £450, so I could use £150 of Clubcard Vouchers (it's a 3x deal) for a week's stay.

I realise some may not have clubcard vouchers, or may not want to stay at any of the places, but just thought I'd post this in case it helps someone.

Thanks. I would be worried in case I chose North Strip 5* and got Trump.

I actually really loved Trump (except for the extreme heat at the pool due to the mirrored glass of the building). That said, it's not in the same price bracket as Venetian/Palazzo, so if you start to bid high hoping for Venetian/Palazzo it would be disappointing.

There's a separate selection now on Priceline which is only for 5* Condos. So you would have to choose that to end up with Trump. Always worth checking https://www.betterbidding.com to see what luck people are having. A lot of people say they wouldn't use priceline or hotwire for Vegas, but I still think there are some good deals to be had. We got The Westin for £30 at the weekend a few years ago - fantastic deal for a hotel we wanted to stay at (it was the hotel we were hoping for when bidding).

Here's the current grouping for Priceline. I think 5* North Strip is a very attractive grouping!! I also like Mirage/TI so 4* North also good for me. City Center fans could do well. :)

    Heard good things about Vdara

I was pricing up a stay at Vdara the other day (can't afford the flights at the moment, but I like putting together dummy trips... I'm sure I'm not the only one... I hope!), and that averaged at about £80/night (even with the hotel directly) so would fit in your budget. With Vdara, even the entry level rooms are suites (not huge on a suite scale, but definitely a couple of stages up from regular hotel rooms).

I would be canny and then email Vdara in advance of your trip and say you would like to have a couple of surprises waiting for your new wife: flowers, chocolates, etc... That way you're not saying "hey Vdara, it's our honeymoon, upgrade us!", but with the type of customer service you get there, I'd be very surprised if they didn't reply and offer to upgrade you... at the very least they'd have a note on the system and will probably upgrade you at check-in - especially if you mention it in conversation (no need for $20/$50 trick).

But even if you bummed out and kept the entry-level deluxe suite, you wouldn't be disappointed.

You'd probably have a better chance of success of the above if you book direct with the hotel.

City Center is the worst concept Vegas designers ever came up with. (Just my opinion)
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
