I have been going to the local council run gym since early August. It has been a real hard slog trying to get the weight off.

I have lost just under a stone in that time & just can't seem to lose anymore.

Been dieting as well & I take my dog out twice a day & cover about 3 miles each walk. I have been loosely following WW old points system at home as I acquired the old points calculator & points book.

Initially I was doing high intensity interval training, then after a while included some resistance training. I have recently started to do customised cardio on the elliptical machine & the stepper. Can't use the treadmill at the moment as I have strained the ligaments in my ankle & it's also affecting the arch of my foot. So have decided to not use the treadmill until my ankle feels better.

Part of my problem is I take two lots of medication which are documented to cause weight gain, so I'm fighting against that.

I am thinking about trying to eat little & often. However, not sure what I should be eating. I am a veggie who doesn't eat any meat or fish. So any advice on foods stuff would be appreciated.

Also, does anyone know know of any cardio/resistance training routines that I could try? As it's a council gym, the personal trainer only goes to the gym on a Wednesday mid morning & I can't get there on that day, so am training blindly at the moment. The gym equipment is good, it's technogym machines. I have sent a message to the trainer, however I've got to wait until she gets the chance to message me back.

I'm feeling so low at the moment as I feel I'm fighting a losing battle & really need to try and keep motivated, but it's hard when your putting in the effort & getting nothing back.

I believe that you can achieve your goals if trying so hard but probably you don't know how!

You should definitely combine exercise with proper diet! I would suggest strength work outs (rather than cardio) which will help you develop your muscles (which will boost your metabolism)! As for your diet you need to include MUCH Protein in your daily food consumption (especially before work outs). Which means you should eat much milk/yoghurt/nuts/eggs while you are a veggie and can't eat tuna or chicken! And of course you shouldn't eat less than 6 meals per day (another tip that will boost your metabolism)! And don't forget to drink 2-3 liters per day!

If you follow all these tips you willl see an impressive change in a matter of 3-4 months! The best part is that you will eliminate fat and at the same moment you will develop a solid muscle system!

Fwiw, I tend to think when it comes to losing weight(rather than purely for health) it is quantity which matters more than quality. You just need to eat less food AND combine with proper exercise which will leave you out of breath. Go for a run(if you can't then try and progress from walking to jogging and then running) a few times a week. Try and maintain a reasonable pace for at least 3 or 4 miles and this will counteract your body going into starvation mode through eating less food. in terms of cost and ease I cannot see any other forms of exercise beating it. There are some who say it is high impact and it is true you could put a stress on your joints but not if you are only doing about 10 or 15 miles a week.
  • Have you thought about increasing your weight training and building more muscle? (Assuming you're female here) I used the New Rules of Lifting for Women book and found it excellent for giving me a structure for my exercises.

I'm not sure you're eating enough either. There is no real fat in your diet (quorn is very low fat) and you need it for normal function and development. Are you eating eggs/beans etc to keep up your protein too?

I'm veggie too and so probably eat very similar things to you. The problem is that it's so easy to get very bored with your food. Everything tastes the same and you end up getting stuck in a rut.

You really need to keep with it. We've just got through Christmas/new year which is all about food, just don't losed sight of what you're trying to achieve.

I also agree about cutting down on the bread-based carbs. Rather than having a bread-based lunch, what about switching to a filling soup with a salad? Or fruit?

eat fewer calories than you use, and you'll lose weight. doesn't matter what the food is, when or how often you eat it.

I eat a lot of calories yet I am a size 8. I think that carbs is the problem. People need to be educated about complete/incomplete carbs.

It's time you googled msg fed mice.
Msg is found in a lot of low calorie foods but they use this on mice to study obesity. It's a fact that if you drink diet coke for example, you will lose weight watching what you eat but your body isn't going to like you coming off the cola it brings on a need for foods with such chemicals like sucrose and aspertame something else worth googling.

Since I've kicked aspartame in the head my frequent headaches have become more settled to just the usual menstrual ones.

I no longer "diet" to lose weight, I eat to heal - lose weight - look good in that order...

    This is true

But if you need 1500 calories, its like starving to eat 1200 calories, while if you need 3000 calories its a piece of cake to eat 2700! That's all i am saying. This is why its so important to boost your metabolism!

Besides I believe that if you try eating only 1200 calories your metabolism will get even lower! That is what happened in my case!
