Greedy landlord - so upset!

You should be safe, though, as that would require court action that would probably drag on until long after January...
Thanks for that info mate.0 -
Now you know your landlord's attitude I'd be making sure any deposit was OK in case he has a go at that for no good reason. Is your protected in a deposit scheme? Also I'd be vigilant when moving out collecting evidence (photos) of the condition of the property and attend checkout of you can. Also report any faults in writing and keep copies.0

Whether it's their mistake or not, you will not have to pay an increased rent.
Agreed, thanks again.0 -

Surely it's the party who signed up to someone else's contract who can complain of unfairness? So a break clause for the landlord only would be fair game. I don't see a landlord can complain against the tenant for the landlord's own contract but he might have a go at the agent if the agent drafted it I suppose.0 -

Thanks for the tips.
The deposit was 1 month rent.
Why not hold December-January rent against the deposit and pay the difference (damages if any etc) once I leave to his bank account? I think that would be a fair agreement for both of us.
Regardless of that yes, the deposit IS protected in the deposit scheme.0 -

Is this a good idea?
To hold the last rent payment until we agree on the deposit?
Is that a normal practice?0 -

Given that he can't enforce it, why are you so upset? Just say no, point out that the contract means that they can't up the rent at this point and leave it at that. They've asked either because they haven't read the contract or in the hope that you'll say yes - have you never made a mistake or tried something on the off chance that it works?0 -

Why doesn't everyone just calm down and quit winding up the OP (Frankie not like you). He has already, according to him, been told it is probably a mistake.FREEDOM IS NOT FREE0
