It would be ideal to make these on a computer you can trust to be safe and malware free.
To make an antivirus boot disk, here is a thread which gives links to many of them, with instructions on how two make and use them. I would make at least 3, and my top choices would be Avira, Dr Web with browser, and F-Secure: (https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/41653210#Comment_41653210)
and a guide to using Avira Rescue CD (read from the 'Boot From Rescue CD' part)
http://forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=82163
To make a Vista recovery disk, use the same method as in the antivirus thread with Imgburn:(http://www.mediafire.com/?nqwfzmzzjnk)
and this is a guide to using it:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial142.html
To make a Ubuntu LiveCD (fully feature operating system), you can download from here: (http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download)
and when you boot from it, select the option to Try the software without installing it0 -
Just looking at the A-Z from signstation, you need three things to view the content properly:
1. Adobe Flash
download here, or here
2. Adobe Shockwave
info here
download here, or here
3. Quicktime plugin.
Do you have VLC installed? On this site, I found that the VLC browser plugin would give a few seconds of playback before stopping, which sounds similar to what you experienced.
Sometimes VLC's plugin can interfere with Quicktime, although ordinarily it works without a hitch.
I disabled the VLC plugin for Firefox, and installed Quicktime Lite (which is just the bare minimum to get the Quicktime plugin, without the annoying player and autoruns)
http://www.users.on.net/~russ/QT_Lite_410.exe
and installed the newest version of Shockwave and Flash, and all the site's content works perfectly for me now.0 -
No problem, although I don't feel like I'm getting at the problem directly.
Do you have access to another computer, one with a CD burner? If not, does yours have a CD burner and do you have some spare discs?
Secondly, do you have a Vista Recovery Disc, which the computer might have asked originally for you to make? Also, do you have the original Vista install disks? Most laptops these days don't, but rather have a separate partition from which a factory restore can be done.
Basically I think you should make some bootable antivirus disks, so you can do some scans from outside of Windows, in case there is a rootkit running on the computer. I also think you need a Vista Recovery disk, so you can fix things if Windows becomes unbootable for some reason. Lastly, it would be an idea to make a Ubuntu LiveCD, which lets you run a fully feature operating system with browser etc from a disk - can come in handy, letting you back things up safely and to access the web to ask for help if you ever need it.
No, I have signed on my email and all my sent emails have disappeared again. I am also still sending emails (one to myself) with links in (I havent clicked on the link to find out what it is).
I dont have access to another computer, I have had this computer loaded with windows again (what a hassle!!) and they did it from the disks. It took me ages from then to get all my bits and pieces back to where I wanted them so I dont really want to do this again.....
I will have a look for the disks though.0 -

What program is stating that? What warning is given? It's a false warning, but don't worry too much about it now then.
Could you forward one of the dodgy emails to me, if you are able to do it without opening it? Just send it to russ_temp@fmail.co.uk
It would be a good idea then to run Combofix. It's an advanced malware tool, so override any antivirus warnings you get when downloading it or attempting to use it. Read this guide first to get an understanding of it:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
1. Save Combofix to your desktop, using any of the following links:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/combofix
http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
If you get an error, just rename it when you download to a different name, or rename the downloaded file to something else.
2. Temporarily shutdown AVG antivirus as per this guide:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html
3. Temporarily turn off Windows firewall if it's on (control panel > Windows Firewall), ditto with Windows Defender which should be off anyway (control panel > Windows Defender)
4. Close down all other programs and Windows including the browser.
5. Run combofix
Then post the whole log here for Alienrik to read. Break it up into pieces like you did with the tddskiller log, and don't worry so much about posting every 'snapshot' page if there are a lot of them. The log is stored on drive C as combofix.txt.0 -

Email sent.

What program is giving the warning though? If it's a legitimate warning from AVG, then it would suggest there's a hijack on your system redirecting you away from the safe link.
Thanks for the email. Like I said in my reply email, it should be okay to open that particular email that was sent to you (as long as you don't click on the link) in order to check the message headers. With the message headers, you'll be able to know if it's being sent from your computer - or if it's being sent from somewhere else.0 -

The warning comes in the form of a bar along the bottom of my screen - it doesnt state which programme if from, it has a orange bar along the top if thats any help.
I have done as directed and sent you an email with the headers included.

Do the warnings look anything like this:

No, its more of a pop-up bar that appears along the bottom, it gives some options save/run/close.
Just attempted to run combofix and this message appears:
Combofix cannot run when AVG is installed. This is due to AVG targetting of Combofix's files/processes. Please uninstall AVG or use another tool.
Should I uninstall AVG? I already disabled it as directed.
