Am a grumpy old bag today (miserable day at work where I could please no-one so gave up even trying) will come back on when feeling more like the shiny happy old me. Really need cake and choccy but doc says to try to lose a bit of weight so best steer clear.

But a bad day = chocolate.... tis the law.
I think being preggers is doing me good - i got a hugeee bar of dark choc out the cupboard...... then got cravings for bread and butter.... guess which won over!!!

studsmatta.gif My BIG NEWS of the day is that i found a tin of pineapple last night and decided it wouldnt move house with us, so opened and realised how huge it was... but fancied cake... and a quick search of MSE Old Style provided the MOST AMAZING RECIPIE I'VE EVER MADE!!! i mean, seriously. 1 egg, small amounts of flour and baking soda, some tinned fruit and 5 mins in the microwave made the Most Lush steamed pudding/upside down cake ever!! we were both gobsmacked. and very full!91.gif

At last been working on the Elegant Lady...worked out I hadn't done any work on her since the first of Spetember last year .
Anyway, I had a lovely stitchy weekend, even had the rugger on the computer so I could listen to it and turn round to watch the replays of any scores made...shame about the result though..still Scotland did score 3 tries!!! :j Even if they did lose :(

So here is where I left The Elegant Lady in Septemeber 2010:

  • Reading 23rdspiral's post has made me hungry. My gran used to make pineapple upsidedown cake when I was little, delicious, I fancy that with ice cream, yum!
Can you see about getting just the keyboard replaced? My OH did this for my friend when she lost some keys, found a site with the spare parts, unscrewed the laptop and replaced the keyboard.

Thanks, tbh I'd never even thought of it. Looks like it'll only cost £10, so a lot cheaper than a new laptop :T

Bubbles - Hello  I don't know you as I'm a newbie here this year, but good to hear you are recovering well.

Ruth honey Great progress on your princess palace, that's another design I really like, too many of the cut thru's appeal to me! Sorry to hear you've been feeling bad, hope things are better soon.

My lappy lost 2 keys and they were about 5 quid each just for the key part from acer , went on fleabay and got the keys plus the clips for them and the rubber for just over 1.00 each key . bargain. Deffo cheaper than a new lappy. easy to fit too.

keiss your lady looks lovely. she's coming along nicely . Wish i could stitch as fast as louise and caroline too.

    Hi girls,

Sorry I have not been on much - had a terrrible migrane at weekend - just wanted to curl up and hide away - so nothing got done. We are so very busy at work - our last week before our new contracts start and I am being relocated to the office round the corner, maybe a transfer later - head is spinning.

. We rounded off the service with 'The One and Only' (Yes! Chesney Hawkes!!), simply because he really was, and would not have ever wished to be anyone else! He also used to sing this song when we were in Skegness in this tunnel, so the echo's were great, when he was 3 years old, and he was word perfect!

I heard this song on the radio earlier and I rembered you saying this - I had to stop what I was doing and I guess now every time I hear it I will think of you and your brother.

I remember when my late husband died he wanted "the birdie song" (his last joke on everyone) but his family "convinced" me not to do it - so I had "love of my life" by queen.

Hi everyone long time no see! and hello to anyone that has joined since I was last on

Sorry I havent been on for forever, I had rectal surgery and things went wrong and it turned into a major operation and took a lot to bounce back from but I am here now and I have finished yesterday the sampler for my brothers wedding 19 whole days early! Im really impressed with it as I changed loads bu adding kreinik blending filament to some of it and using a small design from a cross stitch magazine so instead of a & sign between the names it was two wedding rings. I will take a photo tomorrow.

Anyway better go for now as I still get tired easily.

I hope everyone is ok and hugs to those who arent.

Glad to see you about Bubbles been wondering how you are.

Got a phone call about my laptop - they can't fix it so they are sending us a voucher for £600 for pcworld to buy a new one!

Well better get on with some work - thought I drop in and let you know I am still here - hoping you and yours are all well.

    Kind wishes wherever you are

    sweetcarer ;)

Thanks for all the wishes everyone. Am very traumatised today! Went to go into the kitchen to make coffee & there was a mouse in the trap by the doorway. We haven't seen any evidence of mice for ages now (gotta be well over a year), but still got a board across the kitchen doorway (previous owners removed the door) so we have to step over it to get into the kitchen, and had 2 traps set up at either end. I really don't want mice in the kitchen again-took me ages to feel comfortable cooking in there after last time. I'm too scared to go anywhere near it so I'm now hiding out in the bedroom with the door shut & really hoping there's nothing in here. Every noise has me muting the TV to listen! Am stitching, but it's slow going because the light isn't as good in here. Am getting a bit hungry now, but at the same time, I still feel so sick.

Edited to add...How lovely is my hubby? He just rode home in his lunch hour to deal with it. 15 miles each way from London & back. Bless him. Might have to go out later & buy him some beer or something.

Thanks to all the girls in the Cross Stitch Cafe! You're all fantastic! :A
  • Oh no Ruth  I know exactly how you feel. We used to have mice in our last house. We were told by the pest guy that he'd found the nest and they were all gone. No they weren't! One suddenly came out one night in the kitchen, and I mean it actually CHASED me around the kitchen, and I ended up vaulting up on top of the cooker screaming my head off!!

ohh I think the Birdie song would have been FAB.... not necesarily 'right' for the occasion but if its what he wanted.... even if was played as people left.

FANTASTIC news about your laptop (tho not if it has lost everything).... bet you can't wait to go shopping.

ohh I'm sorry I know i shouldn't laugh but I have an image of a very strange carry on type sketch running through my head.

i remember in my student house the chimney brest ran through my room - blocked up. for agess we could hear scratching from it convinced we had mice... then there were loads of flies....

.... turns out (when my landlord took a look (HAHAHAHA) that a nest of birds had fallen down - some had died others still alive and they obviously couldn't get out.

OHH the smell was horrendous!!! :(

All this talk of mice, I have to report mice here too!!

We haven't had any (that we noticed!) in the house for a few years, but found one had been nesting in a pack of Doritos a few weeks back, but no sign of any mouse activity elsewhere....until now! I have a corner cupboard with a two-tier carousel in it...and there are definite signs of nibblingetc!! I have had to throw out about 4 bags of flour and a couple of sugar...only the wholemeal flour was attacked.,...interesting! The favourite food seems to have been a pack of regal icing (slightly out of date, but I thought I would use it some day!!)...nearly a quarter of a kilo gone!:eek: There were lots of part bags of seeds and stuff also nibbled...so I have been having a major clear-out. The problem is I have an iffy back and all this hauling things out and sweeping/hoovering away the detritis has left me knackered...and I haven't even started to wash everything down yet :(.

My arms are also no long enough to get into the back of the cupboard, which doesn't help. The problem is a hole had to be cut to allow access to the (stupidly placed) water stop-!!!!. DH promised to make a removable, but secure box to cover the hole, but it never materialized...think it will be a plastic box or tin stuck over the hole with duck tape for the moment :D.

I now have to look out all the spare plastic boxes and tubs and tins to see if I have enough to store everything safely incase Mr (& Mrs?) mouse turn up again for another midnight feast. Will lay a trap or two around abouts too.

I'm not frightened by mice, just annoyed about the damage and possiblle disease they spread. I was the official mouse-remover when we had an investation in the church rooms where I was a playgroup leader....comes from being a country lass I suppose :D!!

Sounds like you have a wonderful DH Ruth...what a star!!! :A Hope you recover from your traumatic day soon.

Right, having had a bit of a rest, I'd better make an attempt of cleaning this cupboard...everything is out, so need to get it all washed down...thankfully I have plenty of bleach! :D

So much for getting stitching done this afternoon
